Five shows to watch on Netflix while waiting for part two of ‘Wednesday’ season two

Wednesday may have answered every macabre prayer with season two, but left us with lingering questions and a mid-season cliffhanger. So, who will fill the void between the new episodes, now that the Addams family character is comatose? The gory comeback was not without its wild twists and turns, and if you’re craving a substitute or just another trip down the darker lanes, we get it.

To help you fill in the showbiz blanks, Best of Netflix has selected the five ultimate shows to binge while waiting for the second part of Wednesday season two. From unconventional teen dramas to mind-boggling whodunits, this list serves as a supernatural ferry to the beyond.

But just because there are murder mysteries on the card, don’t go sleuthing alone. If season two has taught us anything, it’s not always ideal to chase the darkness alone. Take a friend, or find someone as handy as Thing.

Or, perhaps, keep Goody Addams’ book of spells if you can find it. Because this time around, Netflix’s dear deadpan chaos agent is on a siren sleep till September 3rd.

Five stopgap shows to watch while waiting for Wednesday:

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, 2018–2020)

If you think surviving Nevermore is a task, imagine attending two schools simultaneously as a half-witch and half-mortal. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark coming-of-age story based on the Archie Comics character Sabrina Spellman. Split among elements of horror, fear, and witchcraft, the Netflix series is conceived in the tone of that very gothic aesthetic found in Wednesday.

In both cases, family plays a central role in guiding them through their witchy and eccentric heritages. In fact, both characters are built with the DNA of rebellion and non-conformity. While Sabrina navigates two worlds, the real and supernatural, Wednesday explores the world beyond.

School Spirits (Megan and Nate Trinrud, 2023–Present)

Wednesday never really willingly returned to a school before Nevermore happened. But what if she were to stay stuck in school for all eternity? School Spirits follows Maddie Nears, a teenager investigating her own death while being stuck in high school with other spirits reawakening in academic hell.

With just her best friend, Simon, able to see her, she must close in on the enigma surrounding her death. But while she’s at it, she must also face the secrets she didn’t see coming. School Spirits is currently streaming on Netflix US.

Dead Boy Detectives (Steve Yockey, 2024)

Just like Wednesday Addams is fascinated by the forbidden, the Dead Boy Detectives characters are courted by mysteries. This supernatural horror detective comedy-drama series is based on the DC Comics characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The Netflix show follows two deceased boys who stay back on Earth, refusing to succumb to the afterlife, in order to solve supernatural crimes.

While Dead Boy Detectives inclines more towards ghostly mysteries, Wednesday is built around darker investigations, especially surrounding the skeletons in Nevermore’s closet. The goth aesthetics are persistent in both shows, and they feature outcasts who struggle to fit in.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Dolly Wells and Tom Vaughan, 2024–Present)

Wednesday Addams loves a good murder mystery. But Enid? Not as much. But in the case of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, where Emma Myers slips into the role of Pippa ‘Pip’ Fitz-Amobi, she owns the Wednesday-like tendencies in more ways than one. Following an insufficient investigation surrounding a popular student, Andie Bell’s death, she takes matters into her own hands as a school senior, inviting the troubles we’re habituated to seeing Wednesday in.

The elder Addams sibling is drawn to murders connected to Nevermore, and Pippa uncovers the truth behind the death that happened five years ago, showing that the past plays a crucial part in both series. While you may not find the supernatural elements here, the true-crime podcast-style investigation is no less intriguing.

Lockwood & Co (Joe Cornish, 2023)

The Addams family’s daughter may have had a few psychic failures in Wednesday’s second season. However, it came in handy in navigating the horrors of the first, getting to the roots of the mysteries surrounding Jericho. Similarly, in Lockwood & Co, the only solution to ‘The Problem’ is a teenage group of detectives who hunt and detect otherworldly threats of ghosts mysteriously rising from their graves.

The Netflix series particularly focuses on Lucy Carlyle, who is blessed with psychic abilities. She runs away from home and arrives in London, joining a new psychic agency run by Anthony Lockwood and George Karim to investigate the threats beyond the graves.
