Five Netflix enemies-to-lovers shows to watch if you loved ‘Maxton Hall’

Somewhere along the way, the world decided that romance is most irresistible when love stories begin with two people who just cannot stand each other, and in all fairness, what a beautiful little invention that turned out to be! Give us a handsome, wealthy and, of course, mannerless boy and let him fall hopelessly for the one girl who couldn’t care less about his fortune, and we’re sold. And that’s something James Beaufort from Maxton Hall has done to all of us.

And Ruby Bell… This young lady was supposed to be getting into Oxford, not losing her heart to Maxton Hall’s most insufferable millionaire! The girl’s worked her socks off for that scholarship, and along comes James with his irresistible glances and game over.

Now, with the third and final season of Maxton Hall coming on December 9th, Ruby’s Oxford dreams are in jeopardy following her suspension, and Christ knows what awaits our star-crossed sweethearts.

But until those two return to make us fall in love with their romance all over again, these five Netflix shows should keep your romantic heart occupied. After all, a little more swooning never hurt anybody.

Five Netflix shows to watch if you loved Maxton Hall

Finding Her Edge (2026)

Poor Ruby Bell from Maxton Hall had Oxford to worry about, and if that’s what you liked about it, meet Adriana Russo, who’s got her family’s skating legacy resting on her shoulders. Finding Her Edge follows Adriana, who returns to competitive ice dancing to help save her family’s struggling rink, and you’d think that was enough of a headache without romance entering the picture.

But no, along comes Brayden Elliot, her new skating partner, with more cockiness than James Beaufort, so you know it’s a bit more complicated here. Eventually this duo agrees to fake a romance to attract sponsors, and when has that ever lasted well? Pretending to like someone when there is chemistry simmering… count us in.

And hold on a minute before you start shipping those two, because there’s Freddie, Adriana’s former skating partner and first love. So it’s not as easy; there’s a love triangle to complicate things. Maxton Hall fans, you’re going to have fun with this one!

XO, Kitty (2023–)

Alright, we know the speculation that this one is getting cancelled is haunting you, but stop worrying until Netflix says something. Let’s shift our focus to Kitty Song Covey for a second. She thought moving halfway across the world to Seoul would be the grand romantic adventure of her teenage years. Deluded much, Kitty?

XO, Kitty follows Kitty, who enrols at the Korean Independent School of Seoul to reconnect with her late mother’s past and reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae… Only to make a fool of herself.

Just then, we have Min Ho, a wealthy, infuriatingly handsome boy who could give our Maxton Hall lad some thought competition in looking smug. Oh, the attitude on this one! Kitty gives as good as she gets, though, and watching their squabbles turn into something resembling affection is enough to have butterflies flutter in your stomach.

Never Have I Ever (2020–2023)

Ahh, it’s impossible that teen romance and love triangles with ambition are brought up and this Mindy Kaling Netflix classic is left behind. Starting with our Gen Z queen, Devi Vishwakumar, an ambitious teen who has her heart set on Princeton, but at the same time, Devi wants to have one hell of a romantic adventure.

Netflix’s Never Have I Ever follows Devi, an Indian-American teenager navigating life after her father’s death, and oh, the shitshow this young lady has made of her romantic pursuits! Between her obsession with the school’s heartthrob, Paxton Hall-Yoshida, and her squabbles with academic rival Ben Gross, there is barely any teen emotion left that she hasn’t experienced.

And speaking of Ben, Maxton Hall fans, you’ll recognise the type. He’s got James Beaufort’s knack for annoying a girl, although his weapon of choice is academic one-upmanship rather than an enormous family fortune, although, in this case, Ben is pretty wealthy too.

Four seasons of romantic calamities await, and take it from the hopeless romantics who’ve fallen for Ruby and James, watching two stubborn people deny the hots for each other is something Never Have I Ever attempts pretty well.

Anne with an E (2017–2019)

Enough with the modern-day romance; time to introduce you to the young and hopelessly romantic of the nineteenth century, when a boy teasing you in class could become the beginning of a love story worth writing poetry about! Anne with an E follows Anne Shirley-Cuthbert, an imaginative orphan who finds a home with siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island, and people, she’s got only so much spirit in her little finger to put half the boys in Avonlea to shame. You go, girl!

Next we meet Gilbert Blythe, a charming young gentleman who makes the rather unfortunate decision to call Anne “Carrots” on their first encounter. Anne, clearly, isn’t having any of it, and she gives him a piece of her mind in a classroom confrontation that sets the stage for one of television’s loveliest slow-burn romances. Seriously, have you missed this one?

Unlike Ruby and James’s tempestuous romance in Maxton Hall, Anne and Gilbert’s affection blossoms through years of friendship and academic rivalry, and when those feelings begin to surface, you will be begging these two to confess.

Doctor Slump (2024)

Last on the list is a fun romance from Korea, and here, we learn that falling in love with your former academic nemesis sounds like something you’d wish upon your worst enemy, but Doctor Slump believes in second chances. Nam Ha-neul is an anaesthesiologist, and Yeo Jeong-woo is a former school rival who ends up living under the same roof.

Back in their school days, Ha-neul and Jeong-woo competed for academic supremacy as though their lives depended on it, and their reunion brings all that delicious squabble back to the surface. Remember how Ruby and James could barely exchange a nice word before falling for each other? Well, these two have a similar problem, except they’ve got years of rivalry to contend with!
