Minerva Academy (Ivan Silvestrini, 2026)
Netflix’s YA slate has another original entry coming up this week, Minerva Academy, on September 22nd. The coming-of-age teen drama, set against the backdrop of a strict military school in Naples, follows students as they navigate the rigidity of old-fashioned school norms, with an early-morning flag-hoisting ceremony, military tactics, and fencing, trying to keep distance from civilian life, mobile phones, romantic relationships, and human mistakes.
Minerva Academy centres on Salvo, a teenager brought up in a group home, who enrols in the posh Minerva Military High School with a mission of his own: to find out what happened to his best friend who has mysteriously vanished without a trace. The Italian drama series also focuses on other cadets as they face their fair share of trials amid Salvo’s probe into his friend’s disappearance, exposing dangerous institutional secrets.
Habeas Corpus (Luiz Villaça and Flávia Lacerda, 2026)
Netflix Brazil is stepping up with its first-ever legal drama, Habeas Corpus, on September 23rd, and The Lincoln Lawyer fans need to assemble fast. Inspired by real-life cases and the work of Innocence Project Brazil, the Netflix series follows respected law professor and ex-criminal defence lawyer Inez as she leads a wrongful-conviction review group with her students to prove the innocence of a young man who insists he did no wrong.
Inez’s most brilliant, prodigious student Marina joins the group, but with a hidden agenda: to uncover and investigate a past injustice linked to her professor’s early career. But as the trial intensifies and the team tries to tie up every loose end, skeletons peek out of the closet, presumptions collapse, and Inez has no option left other than confronting the ghosts of her own past that now clearly threaten the future.
A Different World (Debbie Allen, Tiffany Johnson, Angela Barnes, Nefertite Nguvu, and Bille Woodruff, 2026)
Up next on Netflix’s arrival arc is A Different World’s sequel series, which explores the next generation at Hillman College. Premiering on September 24th, the upcoming reboot comedy follows Deborah Wayne, the rebellious, free-spirited youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she enrols at her parents’ alma mater, the fictional historically Black college, Hillman College, struggling to step out of their shadow while figuring out her own identity.
As for Dwayne and Whitley? Well, the former serves as Hillman’s interim provost and the latter runs a successful skincare empire while keeping a close eye on their daughter who’s taking the next step in her academic path. A Different World is a ten-episode series where nostalgia seeps into Gen Z storylines, addressing not only the dicey modern campus life, but also the contemporary pressures of social media, mental health, and student activism.
The Final Problem (Félix Viscarret, 2026)
Based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel, The Final Problem is a Sherlock Holmes-coded Spanish mystery thriller, releasing on September 25th. Set in 1959 spring, the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation centres on 13 individuals trapped on a small island off the coast of Mallorca during a terrifying storm. While stuck in a secluded hotel on the island, a quiet English tourist named Elisa Mander is found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Although the death initially seems like a suicide, it doesn’t take long to figure out that foul play has been involved. The Final Problem follows Basil, a veteran actor who once portrayed Sherlock Holmes on the big screen, as he unexpectedly puts on the detective’s hat to cut through a tense environment of suspicion and panic, pairing up with an aspiring thriller writer to uncover the answers to every question burning on the guests’ minds.
Unabomber (Janus Metz, 2026)
This week finally puts an end to the wait for Janus Metz’s Unabomber, an upcoming crime drama releasing on September 25th. The biographical thriller alternates between two primary timelines, capturing Ted Kaczynski’s transformation from a 16-year-old Harvard prodigy to the notorious domestic terrorist. It follows Kaczynski’s youth at Harvard University in 1958, where he’s subjected to inhumane psychological experiments by Professor Henry Murray.
Unabomber tracks how these harrowing experiences ultimately led to his increasing isolation, deepening his alienation from society. The film then cuts to the prolonged FBI investigation involving the mail-bombing campaign that sent the United States into a complete state of panic. It follows FBI agent Joanne Miller as she finds herself in a race against time to track down the elusive bomber before tragedy strikes again.
