Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week
When it comes to priority, entertainment is second to none for Netflix. As for the subscribers? Clearly, they love nothing more than the streamer’s dedication to its weekly overhaul.
So far this August, Netflix has wooed viewers with its slate of literary adaptations, returning blockbusters, true-crime documentaries, stand-up comedies, original and non-original movies that have turned office after-hours into daily trips to makeshift theatres in the living room.
And now that yet another week is upon the spectators, they’re understandably not ready to let go of the habit so soon.
So, if you’re craving another round, sit back and plan accordingly with the five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week.
Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week:
Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing (Rory Kennedy, 2026)
Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing marks the most high-profile sequel release of the hour, scheduled to hit Netflix shelves on August 19th. Directed by Rory Kennedy, the 93-minute documentary, serving as the follow-up to Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, investigates Boeing’s corporate culture, focusing on the company’s deep-seated systemic failures and continued prioritisation of financial profits over customers’ safety.
Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing uncovers claims that defective or scrap parts were routinely used on production lines by revisiting recent incidents such as the Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 door-plug blowout. The documentary also explores the tragic death of former quality manager and whistleblower John Barnett, tracing his influence on other insiders, who subsequently spoke out and raised concerns over Boeing’s lack of accountability and alarming state of operation.
Here the Whole Time (Daniel Lieff, 2026)
Adapted from Vitor Martins’ bestselling novel of the same name, Here the Whole Time is an upcoming romantic drama, premiering on August 19th. The heartfelt Brazilian drama follows Felipe, a timid teen who wants to spend his summer vacation entirely indoors, hiding out in his room to binge-watch musicals, read more books, and most importantly, avoid school bullies who have made his life a living hell.
But soon his quiet plans are upended by his own mom, who forces Felipe to host their neighbour and former friend Caio for 15 days while Caio’s parents are away. While Felipe is already hesitant to make changes to his summer plans, Caio’s arrival only triggers his deep-seated body image and social insecurities. Here the Whole Time revolves around Felipe’s two-week-long journey with Caio, whose old resentments take a back seat as they form a deep friendship and eventually a sweet first romance.
Blood Sacrifice (Kristoffer Nyholm, 2026)
Arriving on August 20th, Blood Sacrifice is a five-episode Swedish crime drama, set against the backdrop of a bright Stockholm summer where darkness never fully arrives. The Netflix Original limited series opens with a 911 call reporting a home invasion at a summer house in the archipelago, where two police officers are sent over to investigate. But upon reaching the scene, they both vanish initially, and their brutally murdered bodies are discovered the next day.
The incident sparks a chilling chain of killings, specifically targeting law enforcement, which forces lead investigator Thomas Berg to take charge of the investigation. Blood Sacrifice follows Thomas as he’s forced to reunite with his estranged father and former detective Alfred Berg to ask for help in solving the high-stakes case that has not only endangered authorities designed to protect civilians but also left them at a loss for direction.
Chompoo: Lost & Forgotten (Nontawat Numbenchapol, 2026)
Marking Netflix Thailand’s official entry in the platform’s true-crime catalogue, Chompoo: Lost & Forgotten is a spine-chilling documentary scheduled for release on August 20th. The upcoming project investigates the unbelievable 2020 murder case of three-year-old Orawan ‘Nong Chompoo’ Wongsricha in Thailand, and the bizarre media circus that transformed the prime suspect into a national celebrity.
Nong Chompoo went missing from her home in Kok Kork village in Mukdahan province on May 11th, 2020, triggering a massive three-day search operation that culminated with the discovery of her body on a remote mountain in Phu Pha Yon National Park, roughly two kilometres away from her home. When suspicion fell on her uncle-in-law, Chaipol ‘Uncle Phol’ Wipha, Chompoo: Lost & Forgotten uncovers how he manipulated public sentiment, ultimately capitalising on the fame to ink commercial deals and enjoy a celebrity status.
Outer Banks (Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, 2020-2026)
This week sadly marks the end of one of Netflix’s biggest original hits, Outer Banks, which is set to conclude with its fifth season premiering on August 20th. The action-adventure mystery teen drama follows the grieving Pogues, who are still reeling from JJ’s tragic death in Morocco. With Chandler Groff remaining at large, the crew learns of a legend as they hunt him down. It turns out that Blackbeard’s Blue Crown can resurrect the dead.
As the heartbroken crew faces immeasurable trauma, the revelation triggers a desperate final mission, with Kiara researching resurrection myths linked to the Blue Crown. The fifth season of Outer Banks follows the crew as they travel the extra mile to survive and fight back against impossible odds, forming an unlikely alliance with Rafe and tracking down Groff towards Europe.
