Five heist thrillers to watch after ‘Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine’
Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine arrived on Netflix to steal some high-stakes thrills for the audience last week. And although a weekend has come and gone in the meantime, the cravings for heist thrillers have only begun.
Once you’re done with the slick, intense chaos of the show, we guarantee that you’ll be on the same boat as all of Money Heist fans. When that happens, you’ll probably be searching the entire Netflix library for more such suspenseful robberies, fronted by stylised and genius thieves who give off modern-day Robinhood.
Whether Berlin leaves you diving deep into Álex Pina’s rest of the universe, or appreciating the art of beautiful landscapes against the backdrop of breathtaking thrills of a charming thief flirting through the danger, Netflix has just the queue to follow up with.
Even if you prefer to move away and simply attend to something under the umbrella that’s lighter with quick wit and eccentric crews, or contains the flavour of a revenge arc, here are the five heist thrillers to watch after Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine.
Heist thrillers to stream after Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine
Money Heist – Álex Pina (2019–2021)
In case you watched Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine first, it’s time to see where it all leads: Money Heist. While you must have already caught up with The Professor in glimpses in the latest series, the original show swaps Berlin’s lighter, romantic tone for intense, claustrophobic tension, unfolding against the backdrop of serious political stakes, all thanks to the genius of The Professor.
Money Heist, originally titled La Casa de Papel, is a Spanish crime thriller that follows a criminal mastermind who recruits a group of outlaws to execute elaborate, seemingly impossible heists, spanning multiple days, weeks, and months. From setting sights on the Royal Mint of Spain to print and steal billions to later turning the Bank of Spain into a crime scene of its own, the heist series is packed with wild twists and turns. So, if you start, we promise, there’s no going back before the credits roll once and for all.
Lupin – Louis Leterrier, Marcela Said, Ludovic Bernard, Hugo Gélin, Daniel Grou, and Xavier Gens (2021–Present)
If you’re looking for the closest cousin to Berlin on Netflix, all signs will lead you to the French phenomenon, Lupin. The gritty, stylised heist thriller stars Omar Sy as Assanne Diop, a gentleman thief inspired by the classic adventures and genius sleight of hand of the fictional master of disguise Arsène Lupin. Set against stunning Parisian backdrops, the show kicks off with Diop plotting a daring heist to steal a diamond necklace from the Louvre.
His original plan is to kill two birds with one stone, which is to expose the corrupt Pelligrini family who framed his late immigrant father decades ago for a high-society jewel theft and clear his family’s name. But going head-to-head against one of the most powerful figures has its own cost, which comes in the form of his son’s abduction, leading to Diop going all out, even if it means confronting the ghosts of his past.
Kaleidoscope – Eric Garcia (2023)
Another heist drama on Netflix that will undoubtedly complement your Berlin follow-up marathon is Eric Garcia’s Kaleidoscope. The episodic anthology series tells the story of a master thief and his crew over the span of 25 years as they scheme an elaborate heist to steal $7billion in corporate bonds. The storyline, loosely inspired by the $70billion in bearer bonds that went missing in Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy, centres on the complications that unfolded, leading to intense FBI pursuits and deep-seated revenge.
Kaleidoscope follows notorious criminal Leo Pap, who gathers a specialised team of thieves to break into an ultra-secure, seemingly impenetrable corporate vault. Although the surface motive is the massive payout, Leo’s actual motivation is driven by a revenge arc rooted in his past, as the head of the security firm was his ex-partner, who left Leo to take the fall for a botched heist all those years ago.
Nemesis – Courtney A Kemp and Tani Marole (2026)
If you want something relatively new on Netflix that perfectly chronicles the sleek, critical intensity of Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, Nemesis is here to save your day. The action-heist series is a gripping cat-and-mouse thriller about two geniuses operating on opposite sides of the law: a brilliant but hot-headed LAPD detective and an elusive, calculating thief who has been behind a string of daring heists.
Nemesis aims to subvert the traditional heist genre that evolves from a standard investigative pursuit to a deep, psychological obsession. The plot frequently walks the shades of grey when it comes to right and wrong, forcing the audience to question who the real villain is when a cop bends the law or a criminal breaks the law to protect what they love the most.
Baby Bandito – Julio Jorquera Arriagada, Fernando Guzzoni, and Pepa San Martín (2024–Present)
To put an end to the binge session, we have a Chilean heist drama, Baby Bandito. The hit Netflix series, inspired by the real-life 2014 airport heist in Santiago, Chile, follows talented skateboarder Kevin Tapia, who, despite coming from a humble background, falls in love with a woman from an extremely wealthy and privileged family, ultimately pulling off the heist of the century to prove his true feelings.
Desperate to provide her with the lavish lifestyle she had grown up with, as well as to win the approval of her sceptical mother, Kevin decides he needs a lump sum amount to have him covered. Baby Bandito centres on Kevin’s not-so-legal policy to earn the figure, as he assembles his group of loyal friends to steal millions of dollars from an airport.
