Five essential series to binge on Netflix this weekend:

Girls5eva

Created by Meredith Scardino, this musical comedy series might have a weird enough name that might discourage you from actually checking it out, but you should do it nonetheless.

The series follows a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90s who reunite after their song is sampled by a young rapper. Starring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps, Girls5eva is a hilarious journey of friendship, rediscovery, and second chances. With the third season arriving this week, now is a great time to catch up with this series.

Grace & Frankie

From the minds of Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris comes this heartwarming comedy-drama series.

Starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as the titular characters, Grace & Frankie follows two women who form an unlikely bond after their husbands reveal they are in love with each other. This series celebrates the power of friendship and reinvention. If you always wondered how the characters on Friends afforded their lovely New York apartments despite being relative freshers in their respective fields, then you can carry on that tradition with Grace & Frankie as they live it up in a Malibu beach house. Of course, here, there is an explanation for all of their wealth.

Superstore

Created by Justin Spitzer, Superstore is a workplace comedy set in a fictional big-box store called Cloud 9.

The series features an ensemble cast including Oscar-nominated America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, and Lauren Ash. It offers a hilarious glimpse into the lives of the diverse employees working at a superstore as they navigate the challenges of retail while forging lasting friendships.

Crashing

Written and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge in her pre-Fleabag era, Crashing is a British comedy-drama series that follows a group of twenty-somethings living as property guardians in an abandoned hospital.

As these characters grapple with the growing pains of young adulthood, shenanigans follow along the way. The six-episode series also stars Jonathan Bailey, who had his breakout moment with the Netflix period hit Bridgerton.

Derry Girls

Set in 1990s Northern Ireland, Derry Girls is a coming-of-age sitcom created by Lisa McGee.

The series revolves around a group of teenage Irish girls and one English boy as they navigate the trials and tribulations of adolescence amid the backdrop of the Troubles. With its sharp wit and endearing characters, Derry Girls offers a nostalgic and humorous portrayal of friendship and growing up. It also happens to have one of the funniest pilot episodes in a sitcom ever.
