First look at Keira Knightley in Netflix’s ‘Black Doves’
Netflix have shared a first look at Black Doves, the new spy thriller series starring Keira Knightley.
Set in London, Black Doves will follow Knightley as Helen Webb, a mother who balances her parenting duties with spy activities for an organisation called the Black Doves. Ben Whishaw also stars in the series as Sam Young, an assassin whose paths cross with Helen when things go awry.
The cast also features Andrew Koji, a martial artist and actor, Sarah Lancashire, who previously appeared in Happy Valley, and Omari Douglas, who starred in It’s A Sin. Netflix has now unveiled a first look at the series and revealed the release date.
Black Doves will hit the streaming service on December 5th, 2024, just ahead of Christmas. A series of images from the show have also been shared. The first look photos include a fierce shot of Knightley shooting a gun and a moody image of Whishaw.
A shot of both characters shows the assassin sitting behind the wheel of a car while Knightleys mother-turned-spy sits in the passenger’s seat, her face covered in blood. The final image features Knightley standing by the Thames in London in the snow, Big Ben visible just behind her.
The images certainly suggest that Black Doves will be an intense thriller series, and they already showcase the acting chops of Knightley and Whishaw.
Knightley has also been announced to star in Simon Stone’s upcoming thriller The Woman in Cabin 10. The movie borrows its story from Ruth Ware’s novel and features a star-studded cast. Knightley will be joined by Guy Pearce, Kaya Scodelario and Gugu Mbatha-Raw amongst others. A release date is yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Whishaw returns to his role as Paddington Bear later this year in the third entry into the franchise, Paddington in Peru. Whishaw made his first appearance as the beloved bear a decade ago in Paddington, and reprised it in 2017 for Paddington 2.
The new film, Paddington in Peru, will follow the bear’s adventures in his home country. Whishaw isn’t the only cast member to reprise his role in the series for the new sequel. Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins return as Paddington’s adopted family, while Imelda Staunton reprises the role of Aunt Lucy. Olivia Coleman joins the cast for the first time.
Black Doves is out on Netflix on December 5th.
