Netflix has aggressively ventured into the German film market over the last year to tap into the local demographic. Besides the 2022 remake for the film, All Quiet on the Western Front, one of the biggest acquisitions made by the streamer in 2021 included a $25million deal where Netflix acquired exclusive streaming rights to the upcoming Eddie Redmayne film, The Good Nurse.
Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm is known for his brilliant work on Mindhunter, Borgen and The Hunt, and the BAFTA-nominee will be seen helming the project based on Oscar-nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns’ screenplay. Wilson-Cairns was nominated for an Oscar for Sam Mendes’ 1917.
Since Netflix viewers have an affinity for true crime films, shows and documentaries, this upcoming crime thriller is right up their alley. Based on the exploits of the notorious serial killer, Charlie Cullen, the film will delve deeper into deconstructing and humanising the blood-thirsty man and his motives.

The Good Nurse will be released sometime in 2022. While the date has not yet been announced, a tiny montage from the film was featured for a second in Netflix’s exciting lineup for 2022 at the 1:45 mark.

What is the plot of this new Eddie Redmayne film?
Netflix’s upcoming true-crime thriller will detail the true story of the notorious serial killer, Charles Cullen and detail how he was pursued and finally caught. Alleged to have killed nearly 400 patients in his 16-year-long career as a nurse, Cullen was popularly known as “The Angel of Death”.
Adapted from the 2013 book by Charles Graeber, titled The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness and Murder, the film will be a horrifying and bloody account of Cullen’s escapades. It will feature a nurse who will risk her life and sanity to get close to Cullen and uncover the truth while trying to help him.
One of the most prolific serial killers in history, who operated in New Jersey, Cullen was a married father who was adored and loved by those who considered him to be a responsible and dependable caretaker. Taking advantage of this trust, Cullen has been alleged to have murdered 300-400 patients across nine hospitals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Who are the other cast members in the new Eddie Redmayne film?
The Good Nurse boasts quite the ensemble. It stars Eddie Redmayne in the lead. Academy Award-winning actor Redmayne is known for his brilliant performances in films like The Danish Girl, Les Miserables, Fantastic Beasts, The Trial of the Chicago 7 etc. Redmayne will be seen as the infamous Charlie Cullen who is nabbed by two former Newark homicide detectives.
He will be joined by Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain, who is known for films like Molly’s Game, Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty etc. Chastain will be seen as the nurse who risks her life, family and career to help Cullen and put an end to the carnage.
The other cast members include Nnamdi Asomugha, Kim Dickens and Noah Emmerich. However, their roles have not yet been disclosed.
Asomugha was seen in films like Streetlights Go On and Sylvie’s Love. he was added to the cast in March 2021. In April, Dickens and Emmerich were announced to be part of the film as well. Dickens is known for her role in Deadwood and Fear the Walking Dead while Emmerich was seen in Space Force and The Americans.
What is the production status of the new Eddie Redmayne film?
The Good Nurse commenced production on April 21st, 2021 in Stamford, Connecticut, US. They finished filming by June 24th, 2021, according to Production Weekly.
Entertainment Tonight Canada released photos of Chastain and Redmayne while they were shooting. Later, another Jessica Chastain fan page took to Twitter to post pictures of the upcoming thriller.
