Everything we know about Netflix's 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'

The official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming film in the February 2022 lineup, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is downright terrifying.

With an ominous background score that hints at a possible catastrophe, the camera pans over a hand pulling out the infamous chainsaw, hinting at the return of the notorious Leatherface.

His deadly silhouette followed by the screams of terror set the premise for the gory slasher-flick that is set fifty years after the 1974 Tobe Hopper original flick that cemented Leatherface’s legacy as one of the greatest horror villains in history.

Director Fede Alvarez revealed how the film will be “pretty hardcore” despite retaining the “simplicity” of its predecessor. “We wanted to come up with a very simple premise [with] a powerful domino effect,” he said. “Everything is set up in the right place — all you have to do is push the first domino, and everything will happen effortlessly.”

What is the story behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre

There have been eight slasher films under the texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, starting with Tobe Hopper’s 1974 horror classic. With hordes of video games and comics to add to its legacy, the Netflix film will be the ninth addition to the same. While other versions have strayed away from the original, this film directly continues with the events in Hopper’s movie.

Mentally unstable and overcome by bloodlust, the psychotic Leatherface dons a human skin mask and has a signature chainsaw weapon. He brutally murders his victims, drenching himself in their blood. In the 1974 flick, he is shown living with his equally deranged, cannibalistic family when the cops attack them.

As the sole survivor, Leatherface, a symbol of gentrification, decides to avenge his family by ensuing a terrifying bloodbath, from which only Sally Hardesty escapes physically unhurt but emotionally scarred.
