Everything we know about ‘Lift’ starring Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart has built his brand on being a comedic hero with a dash of action stardom mixed in. From his breakout role in Judd Apatow’s Undeclared to his latest Netflix offering, Lift, Hart has come a long way.

Hart is set to take centre stage in the upcoming Netflix heist comedy Lift. Hart, who has successfully ventured into streaming with Netflix in recent years, has signed a deal to produce and star in four movies for the platform.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, the guy behind action-packed hits like Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious, Lift promises to be a high-octane, globetrotting adventure. Gray, known for his knack of telling action-oriented stories, is no stranger to heist films, having directed The Italian Job in 2003.

As the release date approaches, here’s everything you need to know about the comedic caper Lift.

What is Lift about?

Lift revolves around a master thief, played by Kevin Hart, being lured back into the world of high-stakes heists by Interpol agent Abby Gladwell (played by Loki-fame Gugu Mbatha-Raw).

The plot unfolds as Hart’s character, Cyrus Whitaker, is persuaded by his ex-girlfriend, now working for the FBI, to orchestrate an impossible heist. The target? A 777 passenger flight from London to Zurich carrying a staggering $500 million in gold. The twist lies in the international crew assembled for this audacious adventure. Despite the heist happening mid-air, the film also involves a good deal of globetrotting for that added glitz.

The official blurb of Lift reads: “An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart), race to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet.”

Who is in the cast of Lift?

The star-studded cast of Lift includes Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, Sam Worthington, Paul Anderson, Viveik Kalra, Kim Yoon-ji, and Burn Gorman.

When is Lift being released?

Netflix has scheduled the release of Lift for January 12th, 2024, exclusively on the streaming platform. Initially slated for August 25th, 2023, the film’s release was postponed due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
