Everything to know about Netflix’s long-awaited ‘The Inbetweeners 3’
If you too grew up watching E4 in the late 2000s, The Inbetweeners probably hit a little too close to home. Being a teenager was awkward and full of terrible decisions… and Will, Simon, Jay and Neil turned all of that into comedy gold, and Britain absolutely ate it up. Now cheer up because Netflix is bringing them back.
The show ran for just three seasons between 2008 and 2010, but that was only the beginning. The Inbetweeners Movie was released in 2011 and broke the record for the biggest opening weekend for a British comedy at the time. Then The Inbetweeners 2 followed in 2014, sending the foursome to Australia… where, naturally, things went wrong again.
And then? Nothing. Twelve years passed. Can you believe it? Twelve years and now Netflix has summoned the old selves of Will, Simon, Jay and Neil into our lives.
Yes, The Inbetweeneers 3 is officially in production, which means the boys are doing this all over again, but this time, as grown men.
What is The Inbetweeners 3 about?
Ahh, just Netflix being Netflix… the plot is still under wraps! All we know for now is that The Inbetweeners 3 will continue the story from the sitcom and the first two films.
So that leaves us with one very important question: what on earth happened to Will, Simon, Jay and Neil once adulthood kicked in, and, perhaps more importantly, did adulthood ever really kick in at all? These are the same four who could barely survive sixth form, so twelve years is a long time to grow up… assuming any of them actually did.
What happened in the first two Inbetweeners movies?
The first film took the boys to Malia in 2011, fresh out of school, and the lads were pretty sure that the holiday was going to end well. Guess what? It did not. But audiences had a great time, because the film went on to make nearly $89 million worldwide.
Three years later, Jay lured the group to Australia with stories about the incredible life he had supposedly built for himself. You can probably guess how much of that was true. The Inbetweeners 2 still made nearly $64 million worldwide, then the boys just disappeared from cinemas for twelve years. Which, at the time, really did feel like the end of it.
Apparently not.
Who is returning for The Inbetweeners 3?
We have Simon Bird back as Will McKenzie, Joe Thomas returning as Simon Cooper, James Buckley as Jay Cartwright again, and Blake Harrison playing Neil Sutherland.
And, thank god, Netflix has not brought The Inbetweeners back without the people who actually know what makes it tick. Creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are both returning to write and direct. Cheers to that!
When will The Inbetweeners 3 come to Netflix?
Netflix has not announced a release date yet, and with production only beginning on September 7th, anything more specific would be guesswork. But with the original gang back, now the fans have something to set their hearts on.
