Everything to know about Netflix’s teen psychodrama ‘The Body’
Catholic school can be complicated enough without their rules and regulations, but imagine adding an initiation ritual to the chaos. Naturally, Netflix has to step in when a quirky storyline like this is right in front of it. We’re talking about its upcoming show, The Body, where a group of teenage dancers’ initiation goes wrong, leaving a group of students with visions that start setting off mass hysteria across their town. Could’ve gone better.
Netflix is making the psychodrama as an eight-episode series from Quinn Shephard, the writer-director behind Under the Bridge, and the setup is already tickling our fancy.
Shephard has described The Body as her most personal project, and she pulled a lot from her own teen years. And that, friends, makes it more than just another creepy supernatural story. And you know what adds to the spookiness? The Catholic-school setting.
The influences push things further. Carrie and Jennifer’s Body are both in the mix, while Shephard has described the tone as “gritty camp”. It’s going to be a crazy mess.
What is the plot?
A dance-team initiation going wrong is bad enough, but in The Body, that is only the beginning. These Catholic schoolgirls start having prophetic visions that send fear waves through the town until the whole thing tips into mass hysteria, which is hardly what anyone had in mind for the school term. Well, that went well.
That is where The Body gets interesting, because you are left wondering whether the girls are seeing something real or whether everyone around them is just making a big fat fuss about it. Either way, the show seems more interested in watching a town lose its sanity, and frankly, who is saying no to that?
Who is in the cast?
And the cast? Oh, now we’re talking. Kristina Bogic leads as Anya Butler, with Sara Boustany as Elise Zakaria, Geena Meszaros as Lisbeth Anderson, Shirley Chen as Maddie Delaney and Sofia Wylie as Grace Franklin.
But wait, there’s more. Nnamdi Asomugha is Father Franklin, while Louisa Krause and Jackson Kelly are in the mix too. Then Gabby Windey turns up as Coach Miller. Ashley Madekwe, Marcel Ruiz, Kyra Pierce and Phallon Pierce are all going to be there as well.
Is there a trailer?
Not yet, annoyingly. Netflix has given us everything except the actual trailer. Typical Netflix. So for now, we are surviving purely on the first look. All this just to get us intrigued? Well, it’s working.
When does The Body release on Netflix?
Netflix has confirmed The Body for November 11th, and we understand it’s a long waiting game. Annoying, totally. But with everything we know so far? This is looking very much worth it.
