‘The Perfect Lie’: Everything to know about ‘The Dinner Club’ Netflix adaptation

The September lineup on Netflix couldn’t look any better, but what if it could? Fresh off fan-favourite comedies like Roosters and Football Parents, the streaming giant is preparing to embrace the thrills with its upcoming Dutch mystery thriller, The Perfect Lie.

The polished new mystery is based on Saskia Noort’s bestselling novel The Dinner Club, AKA De Eetclub, under which the show had been developed before the official English title was announced earlier in June.

Co-directed by Dana Nechushtan and Margien Rogaar, the series is developed by writer Dorien Goertzen and Jop Esmeijer, with production backed up by Fiction Valley.

As for the rest of the details? Here’s a comprehensive overview of everything known so far about Netflix’s The Dinner Club adaptation, The Perfect Lie.

What is the plot?

The Perfect Lie is a forthcoming Dutch mystery adaptation that follows Karen, who moves to the affluent town of Bergen in search of a better life with her family. Not long after their arrival, they are welcomed into the elite Dinner Club, an exclusive group of friends who seem to have it all – big houses, bigger careers, and picture-perfect families. But in this case, it’s better not to judge the books by their covers because nothing is what it seems.

The cracks in their dynamic begin to show when one of their friend Evert, tragically dies in a fire that consumes one of the villas. Although his children and wife manage to escape, the tragedy turns into a wake-up call for Karen, who realises that the group’s unbreakable bond is built on dark, unbelievable secrets, hidden agendas and resentments.

While everyone has something or another to hide, the more Karen digs, the more she risks losing herself in the process.
