Every new movie coming to Netflix this fall
Notice how Netflix was dead quiet for a few days, with barely any announcements coming through? Turns out our favourite streamer had its head down putting together its fall movie calendar, and now it’s all out in the open. Yep, mystery solved.
September gives the first real taste of what is ahead, with Tyler Perry reuniting his old crew for Why Did I Get Married Again? on September 9th. Then things take a hard left with UNABOMBER on September 25th, where Jacob Tremblay plays Ted Kaczynski and Russell Crowe joins him as Harvard psychologist Henry Murray. Odd pairing, right? Bet you’re intrigued!
October gets darker (as it should). Ben Affleck is bringing you his own directorial work, Animals, a kidnapping thriller about a mayoral candidate whose son is taken, and he’s not just behind the camera but is also starring opposite Kerry Washington. It’s scheduled for October 9th. A week later, Sacrifice puts Chris Evans in the role of a movie star held hostage by Anya Taylor-Joy at a charity gala. Ooh, that sounds like a fun ride and, yet again, a fresh pairing.
November changes the temperature with Jessica Chastain in Heartland, where she plays a retired country singer forced back into Nashville after her niece disappears. It has mystery and reckoning, which puts Chastain in her familiar territory.
Then there is Possible Love, and this one deserves special attention because Lee Chang-dong has not made a feature since Burning in 2018. Eight years later, he is back, and for film fans who still think about that movie, please don’t take this lightly.
The Mosquito Bowl follows on November 25th, with Peter Berg adapting the true story of college football players who joined the Marines after Pearl Harbour. Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård lead it, which is unexpected, but that makes it even more interesting.
December keeps the momentum going with Cameron Diaz in Bad Day on December 11th, then Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn on December 18th, with Sam Rockwell voicing a private detective in an alternate-future world.
And then comes December 23rd: The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Brad Pitt is back again, David Fincher is directing, and Quentin Tarantino wrote the script. You are going to circle it twice, don’t you?
