Before you get carried away with everything coming to Netflix this September, spare a thought for the other end of the Netflix calendar, because, well, the platform is making sure we don’t get too happy. So naturally, it’s removing some classics from its catalogue for us to experience that bittersweet feeling.

And it’s always the damn first of the month, which is the biggest bad news bearer, and it starts by taking what is basically an entire syllabus with it. Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V and Rocky Balboa are all saying goodbye, along with Creed, Creed II and Creed III. It’s nine films across two generations, and Netflix is about to rob us of a ridiculous amount of Sylvester Stallone and Michael B Jordan all at once. Hopefully, it brings them back.

The same day also removes The Big Lebowski, The Breakfast Club, Little Miss Sunshine and Matilda, which is a cheeky haul of beloved films to lose in one swoop. Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List is off as well, and given that it won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, that is one hell of a classic that Netflix is taking away from us.

Horror fans do not exactly escape unscathed either. Jennifer’s Body, Don’t Breathe and Trick ’r Treat all leave on September 1st, with Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap heading out alongside them. Both Zombielands, yes. Apparently, anyone plotting an early Halloween binge can forget about it.

Things calm down a touch after that, although September 3rd takes Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, while September 7th says goodbye to Poor Things. The latter features Emma Stone in the role that earned her a second Best Actress Oscar, so there you go, another award-winning drama off the list.

Then September 10th takes Bombshell, followed by Kraven the Hunter on September 14th and The Outrun on September 18th. And really, if Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman are all in one film, and you still have not watched it? Come on now.

The series side is taking a bit of a hammering too, because September 1st removes all five seasons of Orphan Black, along with Black Lightning and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Crashing.

Then comes September 15th, when all six seasons of Nashville and all four seasons of Spartacus make their exit, before Lopez vs Lopez leaves on September 18th and Forest of Piano follows on September 28th.

So yes, September is bringing plenty of shiny new distractions, but have a proper rummage through that watchlist first. Sayonara, old favourites.
