Every film and series coming to Netflix this week: September 2024

There isn’t a huge amount of original content coming to Netflix over the next seven days, but the new additions nonetheless underline the streaming service’s desire to offer as wide a range as possible for its subscribers worldwide.

The highest profile by far is Jack Whitehall: Fatherhood with My Father, which continues the comedian and actor’s popular series of travelogue-style documentaries made alongside his old man, Michael, who ended up becoming an unlikely star in his own right for his no-frills and incredibly curmudgeonly approach to being taken outside of his comfort zone.

One of the recurring barbs Michael threw at his son during the five seasons of predecessor Travels with My Father was that he didn’t have a partner or a family, something that changed when Whitehall welcomed a daughter in September 2023.

Once again, the pair will take their unique dynamic to various countries to explore what it means to be a father, all while the impending shadow of his firstborn looms over Jack’s head. Travels with My Father was a huge hit for Netflix across its run, so it’s reasonable to assume the spiritual sequel will follow suit.

Whitehall isn’t the only comedian with a Netflix original dropping this week, though, with Ahir Shah’s sand-up special Ends arriving on the very same day, continuing the platform’s long and fruitful association with giving comics on every step of the fame and visibility ladder a spotlight to showcase their talents.

Reality competition series The Circle is also on its way back to screens to continue its impressive tilt as one of Netflix’s longest-running originals, with the impending seventh season poised to bring it to within touching distance of 90 episodes, a number not many in-house exclusives have ever been able to reach.

On the film front, co-directors Luis Gerardo Méndez and Gerardo Gatica follow a boyband reuniting 20 years after the peak of their success in Technoboys, while Polish drama Boxer finds an aspiring pugilist fleeing communist-era Poland to embark on one of the sports flick’s tried-and-trusted underdog stories as he seeks to achieve his dream of becoming a world-beater.

Docuseries, drama, comedy, animation, reality, and music are all present and accounted for, with Netflix remaining a buffet of onscreen eclecticism.
