A combination of original and legacy content has kept Netflix ticking over as the undisputed top dog in the streaming wars, and there are some major titles on the way this week to keep subscribers occupied for hours on end.
Those with a soft spot for long-running sitcoms will have all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother to binge as of June 3rd, while those who prefer their shows to be of a more documentarian nature can devote themselves to the 30 for 30 specials covering the staggering rises and egregious falls of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius.
Stand-up comedy is represented by Jo Koy’s Live from Brooklyn special, while Hitler and Nazis: Evil on Trial digs into the past to scratch an itch for anybody who prefers their deep dives to be more historical in nature than the aforementioned ESPN specials digging into sportspeople and their associated scandals.
Box office smash hit Crazy Rich Asians is on the way, too, but there’s no debate over which two incoming originals – one each from the world of film and television – are guaranteed to rocket right towards the top of the most-watched charts from the second they arrive on the platform.
The third and final season of comic book adaptation Sweet Tooth premieres on Thursday, June 6th, with the fantasy adventure executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. rounding out its sweeping journey of sef-discovery and salvation as Christian Convery’s half human/half deer hybrid Gus makes one final push to save the world.
On Friday, Richard Linklater’s hotly-anticipated and widely-acclaimed Hit Man debuts, with Glen Powell playing a police contractor who poses as a hired killer to ensnare suspects, only to get more than he bargained for when he ends up falling for one of his potential marks.
There’s plenty to choose from as always, then, with Netflix covering almost every base from live-action and animation to comedy and thrillers via international productions and breakout success stories.
