Netflix’s 'Enola Holmes 2' to star Helena Bonham Carter

Following the immense success of Enola Holmes, Netflix quickly greenlit a sequel where Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill would be reprising their roles. And now, reportedly, Helena Bonham Carter is set to make a return as well.

Enola Holmes became one of Netflix’s most popular releases after it started streaming in September 2020. It was some of the most popular titles to have ever streamed on Netflix, and we cannot help but appreciate Brown for her incredible performance as the free-spirited and independent girl, Enola.

A character whose catharsis from naivete to wisdom and independence is delightful and promising. Brown was particularly enamoured with the role and is excited to take on the character once more.

Directed by the Emmy and BAFTA-winning director Harry Bradbeer, known for Fleabag, Ramy and Killing Eve, the script will be written by Tony and BAFTA-winner Jack Thorne, known for his works like The Aeronauts and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

The ensemble cast includes Adeel Akhtar, Abbie Hern, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Susan Wokoma, Hannah Dodd, David Thewlis, Serrana Su-Ling Bliss and Gabriel Tierney.

Based on Nancy Springer’s book series, the new film might just stray away from the plot of the book, simply borrowing the title.

Bonham Carter, who played the role of Enola’s mother, Eudoria, around whose disappearance the whole plot of the film revolves, is set to make a return. She is free-spirited, independent and a proponent of the women’s suffrage movement. It will be interesting to see the progression of her character arc in the sequel.

After the first film’s release, Brown had expressed her desire to come back for a second film, saying, “Let’s see how people respond to the first one. Let’s see if they fall in love with Enola as much as I have fallen in love, but there’s definitely much more of a story to be told.” After the sequel was announced in May 2021, she could not contain her excitement about how fans would react to see Enola’s journey.

“I can’t wait to collaborate again with my Enola Holmes family! Enola holds a special place in my heart – she’s strong, fearless, intelligent, and brave,” said Brown
