Eddie Murphy film 'You People' climbing the Netflix charts

Directed by Kenya Barris, the newest Eddie Murphy film that climbed the Netflix charts is called You People. A star-studded attempt at a modern and contemporary rom-com where it is about much more than just love and laughter.

With a star-studded cast, this film landed a notch above Netflix’s usual investments. Jonah Hill co-writes the film’s story along with Barris, and it is already grabbing great reviews from audiences.

Ezra Cohen, played by Jonah Hill, is a thirty-five-year-old podcast host along with his friend Mo touching up on African American issues. The story really revolves around a new couple navigating societal pressures, clashes amidst cultures, and differences between generations.

The whole cast of You People is an ensemble of stars from Hollywood. Diverse yet united by comedy. Some of them include Edie Murphy (Akbar Mohammed), Lauren London (Amira Mohammed), Julia Louis Dreyfus (Shelly Cohen), Nia Long (Fatima Mohammed), and last but not least David Duchovny (Arnold Cohen).

The synopsis reads: “A new couple and their families reckon with modern love amid culture clashes, societal expectations and generational differences.” It is very easy to watch and entirely entertaining at every turn with Murphy’s comic timing in full effect.

Audiences are responding well to the release, and it has already gathered millions of hours of viewing and will likely continue to thrive.

The film has gotten a mixed set of reviews most of them highlighting the presentation of racism amongst liberals. It highlights the ways in which multicultural relationships work in this contemporary world and how the perception of relationships has changed through generations.

One thing is for certain that all the issues that the film tries to touchup are put up on the table. Although the film starts out as a cute version of budding romance within the modern world, the reality is slapped back onto the screens by the involvement of their parents. The underlying narrative is revealed!

Regardless of the mixed reviews, this film gathered traction fast. Simply because of the topics covered within a certain framework. Including race and religion have been two of the most discussed subjects within the borders of America for the longest time. A must watch for all Edie Murphy fans!
