‘Devil May Cry’ is officially returning for its third and final season

The season of renewals is officially upon Netflix, and we’ve just peeled back the update of the hour: Devil May Cry has been greenlit for its third and final season, which means Dante is returning one last time.

Based on the popular video game from Capcom, Devil May Cry recently arrived on Netflix with its follow-up instalment. When the debut season of the animated adaptation was released on Netflix, showrunner Adi Shankar and his development partner Alex Larsen reportedly worked on it day and night since its first announcement in 2018.

“Our goal wasn’t to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform – period.” Shankar joined forces with Studio Mir, the production house behind The Legend of Korra and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, for the adaptation.

The first season of Devil May Cry is set in the portal between the human and demon worlds, where nefarious forces are at play. Caught amidst the crosshairs of it all is an orphaned demon hunter, Dante, for hire, oblivious to the fact that the destiny of both realms rests in his hands.

The sophomore season of the hit Netflix adaptation focuses on the war that breaks out between the human and demon worlds, forcing Dante to battle the only figure who reflects him: his estranged brother, Vergil. While Dante has no option but to confront his inner demons as well as his suppressed feelings about the family he lost as a child, the second season culminates in an explosive finale, prompting Dante to choose between letting go of his demons or succumbing to them.

As Dante returns to Earth with the portal sealed, Vergil is trapped in Hell, where he challenges the demon emperor for the throne. The third and final season of Devil May Cry will capture the impending apocalyptic war.

For those unaware, Devil May Cry adapts the action-adventure game developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. The video game centres on hunter Dante, who embarks on a relentless mission to exact revenge for his mother’s death by killing all demons.

Although Netflix has greenlit Devil May Cry for a third and final season, it’s still too early to confirm the release window. So, until more updates surface, stream the first two seasons on Netflix right now!
