Details of ‘Suits’ spin-off confirmed

A Netflix series once famed for featuring Meghan Markle is getting its own spinoff. NBC has confirmed that Suits will be getting a new series set in LA.

Meghan Markle had her breakout role in Suits, playing a talented paralegal named Rachel Zane. She starred in the show’s first episode in 2011 and remained a regular until her relationship with Prince Harry took off in 2017.

The series was incredibly popular. The highly tense legal drama has been captivating audiences worldwide. It was the most-watched show on Netflix in the United States during 2023 and was recently purchased by the BBC, so it has now been uploaded to iPlayer. Suits followed Old School actor Patrick J Adams. He played Mike Ross, a genius who used his photographic memory to secure a job at a New York City law firm despite not having a law degree.

Shortly after BBC purchased it, NBC announced a new spinoff series is in the works. The series will be called Suits: LA and will premiere in February 2025. Stephen Amell (star of Arrow) will play the lead character, Ted Black.

Also confirmed to star in the series will be Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill) and Lex Scott Davis (The L Word: Generation 2). John Amos will also be in the spinoff. Amos sadly passed away in August at age 84 from congestive heart failure; however, he will posthumously feature in the first episode, making his last on-screen appearance.

The series will likely be similar to the original Suits, as it is being produced and written by the original creator, Aaron Korsh. It will predominantly follow Ted Black, a former New York federal prosecutor. Black has a change in scenery and profession as he moves to LA to represent some of the city’s most powerful clients in a bid to save his law firm from collapse.

“I was just excited to go do an in-person audition for the first time in like eight years,” said Amell in an interview with Deadline, “And I went into it without a ton of expectations because you never know what they’re going to be looking for.”

While the spinoff series has a brand new cast, it’s likely we will see some of the original Suits cast members make an appearance. Adams, who played a fraudulent lawyer and Markle’s love interest, has expressed an interest in returning in character and appearing on the show.

“Whatever the case, our fearless Aaron is working on it. And if we get the call, if I get the call, I’m ready to get dressed,” he said in an interview at the Golden Globes, “I love the show, I love the character. And I’ve loved working with all these people.”
