The ‘Dept Q’ cast are hoping for a second season

Netflix’s new crime drama Dept Q is already brewing up a storm on the internet. Set in Edinburgh, the show follows an English detective, Carl Morck, who reports back for duty to lead a new department that concerns itself with cases that have run cold. The series features Matthew Goode as Morck, who also briefly starred in shows such as The Good Wife, Downton Abbey, and The Crown

The first season consists of nine episodes and was released on May 29th. It is based on the book series of the same name by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The show was created by Scott Frank, who has previously worked closely with Netflix for the series Godless and The Queen’s Gambit

Dept Q begins with Morck working with Detective Inspector James Hardy and a younger officer as they investigate a criminal case. The story takes a turn when a man in a mask shoots at them. Morck is injured, while Hardy is paralysed. The other younger officer does not survive the attack. Hardy is played by Jamie Sives, who was briefly seen earlier in Annika and Guilt

The story progresses as Morck returns to work after the traumatic incident. He is re-allocated to the new department to keep him from interfering. A Syrian officer, Akram Salim, joins Morck as they go about solving cases. Salim was forced out of his home country, which led him to Edinburgh.

Netflix has yet to announce a renewal of the show for another season. This may be because they are still assessing the response of the audience to the show. They will decide depending on the number of viewers who watch the show in the initial weeks of its release.

While the streaming giant is yet to express any such interest, the cast has already shared its hopes for a second season. Lead actor Goode shared that in a conversation with Frank, he discussed the need for a second season with enhanced action scenes. Even his co-star Chloe Pirrie, who plays the role of Merritt Lingard, a prosecutor on the show, has shared similar sentiments.

The book series has already seen a very successful adaptation into a film franchise in Denmark. The first six books have already been adapted, and the remaining adaptations are underway. They are eyeing releases between 2026 and 2032.
