‘Black Doves’ season two ending explained: Does Helen reveal her true identity to Wallace?

When writer, showrunner, and executive producer Joe Barton teased higher stakes in Black Doves season two on Netflix, viewers expected hell to break loose. So, if you watch the instalment, you’ll see how the creator meticulously delivers on its promise.

Much has changed in Helen Webb’s double life as a covert spy for the shadowy organisation called the Black Doves. Previously, she was balancing two worlds: trading government secrets and sustaining a decade-long marriage to a rising politician. But in the second season of the hit spy thriller, Wallace becomes the UK’s prime minister, unknowingly forcing Helen into the centre of British politics as secrets from her past surface. Talk about bad timing!

At the same time, Black Doves agents are being systematically targeted by a figure from Reed’s past, sparking an internal crisis. To make things worse, Helen is tasked with killing Wallace in the season finale, with their children held as leverage, leaving her with little choice. Although Sam ultimately settles the debt with the enigmatic emissary who had been blackmailing him with incriminating evidence about Helen, that pushes Reed into a dangerous position.

But Patrick is far from done eliminating the Black Doves. So, when Wallace’s peace summit experiences unforeseen chaos, Kestrel agents arrive just in time to take Katia and US defence envoy Cecile hostage. Katia, AKA Vita, makes it crystal clear that her mission is to end Black Doves once and for all, and the biggest part of her plan is getting Helen to kill the prime minister. But does she succeed, or does Helen find a way out?

Does Helen reveal her true identity to Wallace in Black Doves season two?

Helen is visibly cornered by the conspiracists at the centre of Black Doves season two, and she’s put in an impossible position. However, in the season finale, she decides to tell Wallace the truth, at least some part of it, without revealing the whole backstory through the hidden earpiece attached to her husband’s car. Had it been a video call, Katia could have easily seen Helen shoot at the window behind Wallace. But thankfully, it wasn’t, which also saved their children and Wallace.

Helen admits that she had been leading a secret life, and the life they built together has been walled by secrets, too. “In some ways, you know me better than anyone else in the world. And in other ways, you don’t know me at all. I was born with a different name, a different voice,” she tells Wallace.

The second season of the hit spy thriller pulls the curtain back where it opened as Helen and Wallace sit down for a disturbing confrontation. The conversation comes after Helen’s hardened confession to him. In the aftermath, Wallace chooses not to give her away when MI5 questions him about her whereabouts.

Although it looks like Helen is finally going all in with her revelations, the episode concludes just before her presumed confession. “To get into the fallout from this and Wallace knowing Helen’s true identity is such a big thing that it kind of needs its own series,” Joe Barton tells Tudum. “The whole nucleus of Helen is that she’s got this secret life, and what happens when that secret comes out is such a fascinating thing.”

So, while we know Wallace knows about Helen’s lies, only time will reveal whether he gets to know the full extent of her secrets and her true identity.
