Beyoncé to perform live at NFL event for Netflix

Netflix has announced Beyoncé will perform songs from Cowboy Carter at the NFL Christmas Day Halftime Show on December 25th. She will deliver an exclusive performance for streaming platform subscribers.

The Christmas Day game is between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, in keeping with Netflix’s current ambition to livestream more events on the streaming platform. To try and convince more viewers to tune in for the historical event, Beyoncé has confirmed that she will perform at the halftime show.

The singer will perform live at the NRG Stadium in Houston. She will perform songs from her most recent album, Cowboy Carter, which saw her tackle the country genre and landed her at the top of the charts.

Other than the Cowboy Carter factor, other details about her performance are being kept well and truly under wraps. The game will take place on December 25th at 4:30pm ET. The streaming site has hinted that Beyoncé intends to bring along some special guests who appear on her newest album for the performance.

Notably, the last time Beyoncé headlined an NFL halftime show, she reunited with Destiny’s Child.

Beyoncé’s most recent album was well-received by both fans and critics alike. One of the highest points of praise she received was on her cover of The Beatles ‘Blackbird’, which received the approval of Paul McCartney. “I am so happy with Beyoncé’s version of my song ‘Blackbird’,” he said, “I think she does a magnificent version of it, and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place.”

This won’t be Beyoncé’s first time performing at an NFL Halftime Show. As previously stated, she reunited with Destiny’s Child at her Superbowl Halftime performance in 2013, meanwhile, she joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars on stage three years later, debuting her track ‘Formation’, which has since become a classic.

Netflix will be under a lot of pressure to deliver on its Christmas Day stream of the NFL, given that many viewers have been complaining following its most recent live-streamed sporting event, Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. While many were disappointed with the quality of the fight in general, many viewers didn’t even get to watch as they complained about issues with the stream constantly buffering and crashing frequently.

With the announcement of Beyoncé’s halftime show, the Christmas Day game will likely draw similar numbers to the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight, therefore, Netflix will need to prove to viewers that its livestream capabilities are up to scratch.
