'Better Days’ Derek Tsang to direct Netflix's 'The Three-Body Problem'

Better Days director Derek Tsang has signed up to direct Netflix’s upcoming venture, The Three-Body Problem, based on Liu Cixin’s popular sci-fi trilogy series.

The Oscar-nominated director will be working in close collaboration with the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The duo will serve as the executive producers and showrunners on this show as a part of their lucrative deal with Netflix. The co-creator of Game of Thrones, Alexander Woo, shall be working with them as well.

The Three-Body Problem will be a Netflix drama series inspired by the epic sci-fi tale woven by Cixin. The first book sees Ye Wenjie losing her father to the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution and then attempting to aid the aliens in their plans of a planetary invasion. Simultaneously, various other communities on Earth plan ways to welcome them.

Hong Kong filmmaker Tsang is most notably known for 2019’s Better Days, which received a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best International Film. The picture won eight prestigious honours, including the coveted Best Picture Award at Hong Kong Film Awards.

Stang is also revered for directing films such as Soulmate, Good Take!, Lover’s Discourse and Lacuna. While the casting has not yet been announced, Netflix is reportedly in talks with Eiza Gonzalez, as reported by Deadline.
