‘Best of the Best’ ending explained: Do Maya and Anjali’s team win the championship?
Netflix just took a blockbuster leap with Best of the Best, starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia, and fans are here for the drama.
Directed by Lena Khan, the coming-of-age story follows two lifelong best friends who join UCLA to pursue the same course. Although opposites in nature, their wavelengths match. So, when the competitive UCLA Bollywood-fusion dance championship takes centre stage, they both find themselves participating, only for very different reasons.
Maya likes competition, and Anjali just wants to try something new. However, since Maya has had a traumatic experience with drones during her final performance in school, Anjali convinces her bestie to participate this time around. As Maya’s competitive side oozes out, she’s almost on the brink of becoming the team lead. But even though she clearly gets more votes, Ronak, Deepica, and Dimple decide to change a vote and make Anjali the lead instead.
Despite overhearing the conversation, Maya keeps things to herself. But when Anjali calls Maya envious, citing that she didn’t do her computer quiz on purpose, even though Maya genuinely forgot about it. While Maya doesn’t flaunt a clean sheet on friendship either, Anjali decides to quit the team. Although constant comparisons sow the seeds of larger-than-life insecurities, Maya quits too, once she realises her team doesn’t like her. So, do they even patch up? What about the championship?

Like true love, true friendships also find their way back. Despite going their separate ways in Best of the Best, they eventually return to the club. And just ahead of their final stage performance, they finally get a chance to talk things out. Had they still been mad at each other, they probably wouldn’t have returned to the team. However, they seize the moment to apologise and make up before their performance.
With the sisters back and clearly better than before, it’s undoubtedly one of the most cheerful sequences of the dance comedy. And indeed, dance brings them back together. By the end of the Netflix Original movie, Anjali and Maya both take the lead of UCLA Agni since they’re the only ones who can pick up a dance routine that quickly.
Once into the first round, Maya reveals her dislike of the Bollywood wedding theme, reasoning it’s stereotypical. So, she opts for the road less taken and comes up with a story about love, the kind she shares with Anjali. While she also infuses the concept of Kohinoor, rather than stealing it back in their performance, they destroy it, breaking it into thousands of minuscule pieces, so everyone gets one.
But midway through the performance, the light goes off, and the besties are put again in a tough spot. However, instead of panicking, the dynamic duo returns with a dance routine they did during school days. And for Maya? It’s a full-circle redemption since no drone casualty takes place. And just like that, Best of the Best concludes with a win, culminating in the long-awaited run to Taco Bell.
