An "awful" 2017 thriller has topped the Netflix film charts

A rather surprising film is currently ranked number one on Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched films list, leaving many viewers perplexed. The film in question is Tomas Alfredson’s 2017 debut feature The Snowman, an adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s novel of the same name.

Starring Michael Fassbender, the film was a commercial failure. Made on a production budget of $34million (£34.3million), it earned just $6.7million (£5.4million) at the box office. It was also panned by fans and critics, gaining a six per cent review on Rotten Tomatoes.

Half a decade after its release, Netflix has given the film a second chance. While the audience reaction is much the same, the film is currently ranked at number one on Netflix’s most-watched films list, leading journalist Ben Dreyfuss to describe The Snowman as a “perfect piece of s*** box office flop” that has gone “viral on Netflix a decade after it failed in theatres. I hope this does really well and people start hashtags demanding Netflix make sequels.”

Another viewer took to Twitter to write: “This is a genuinely awful film,” with a fellow user describing The Snowman as a “dumpster fire of a film”. You can watch the trailer below.
