‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ season 3 is officially in production
To the delight of fans of the Avatar series, Netflix has shared two big updates. The second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender is officially complete, and the third season is slated to begin the first leg of its shooting schedule.
This announcement was an extremely heartening move, with Netflix sharing a sweet on-set video featuring the cast on their social media page. Adding to the already brewing excitement, they also shared a line-up of new cast members such as Terry Chen, Dolly de Leon, Lily Gau, and Madison Hu, poised to appear in season two.
The instant success of the first season and the immense love it received from its loyal fan base made it a no-brainer to renew the show for two more seasons. Season three will also feature musical theatre actor Jon Jon Briones and Killers of the Flower Moon actor Tantoo Cardinal.
The current series is a live-action reimagination of the hugely popular animated show on Nickelodeon. The story revolves around Aang, a young avatar who goes on a journey with his trusty companions to learn how to master the four elements and protect the world’s balance from the attack of the Fire Nation.
Executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani shared their excitement for the upcoming second season, disclosing that they will be diving deeper into the complicated interpersonal relationships of the characters as they go about their journey. The season will also involve a special focus on the Earth Kingdom and introduce new challenges for the beloved characters as they grow with the storyline. They are also looking into developing real-life versions of scenes from the original animated series.
The first season ended with a pyrrhic victory for Aang and his friends. They defended their nation against Prince Zuko and others who aimed to destroy the Northern Water Tribe. However, in a major twist, Zuko’s sister took control of one of the Earth Kingdom cities. A mid-credit scene also showed that a rare cosmic event will soon be descending upon the fictional world.
Let’s hope Aang and gang can hold their own.
