The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: May 2024

The buzz around Baby Reindeer has been unavoidable over the past few weeks, with the ‘real Martha’ revealing herself and appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored to dispute claims that she stalked creator Richard Gadd. The show has been dominating Netflix’s top ten charts for the past few weeks, but it has finally been overtaken.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the new season of Bridgerton has shot to the top of the streamer’s most-watched series list. The beloved period drama, based on the books by Julia Quinn, has been incredibly popular since it first aired in 2020. After a highly successful second season and a spinoff show, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the third season has now arrived.

For the first half of the third instalment, much of the plot revolves around the relationship between Penelope, played by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton’s Colin. The new season landed on Netflix on May 16th, with the remaining four episodes being released on June 13th. So far, it has racked up an impressive 165,200,000 watched hours.

Coming in at second place is the new documentary Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal. The show is about several couples whose relationships were affected by the Ashley Madison hacking scandal, which exposed users on the dating site designed for affairs. Director Toby Paton told Variety, “I mean, it’s kind of got everything, hasn’t it? It’s got all the kind of propulsive kind of narrative drive of a thriller with the story of the hack, and exposing the data and the investigation into who did it.”

Baby Reindeer is now in third place, with Bridgerton’s first season coming just below it. Fans have clearly been refreshing their memories of the period piece before tuning in for season three. Season two also made it onto the top 10 list, sitting at number eight.

Two Kevin Hart productions have made it into the top 10 this week: Kevin Hart: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and The Roast of Tom Brady. In the former, the comedian is celebrated and roasted by others, while the latter sees Hart and various comedians roast former footballer Tom Brady, which has quickly gained controversy for certain dark jokes.
