Well, the Netflix US charts have taken a rather prehistoric turn this week, because apparently, Americans have decided to make hay while the sun shines with the recent addition of the Ice Age franchise. Five films from the same series have marked their victory in the Top 10, leaving precious little room for anyone else.

Kudos to Ben Affleck with his new thriller Animals, though, which somehow managed to take the crown, with Affleck directing himself alongside Kerry Washington. You see, there’s plenty of star power to attract viewers.

The film follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose family becomes embroiled in a kidnapping, threatening to derail his political ambitions. It’s not the first time for Affleck in the director’s chair, so seeing him return to familiar territory is not a shock.

Tyler Perry’s Doing Life has grabbed the runner-up spot, with Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves playing two people who develop a connection through prison correspondence. Perry’s Netflix films have become something of a fixture on the platform, and whether you love them or loathe them, the man knows how to get people talking.

Meanwhile, The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part has found an audience among true-crime enthusiasts, taking third place with its examination of Thomas Randolph, a man whose complicated marital history and connections to multiple deaths make for a case that beggars belief.

Shocking as it may seem, but after a murder documentary, the original Ice Age movies have landed fourth, bringing Manny the mammoth and his companions back into the spotlight more than two decades after their first adventure. We’re chuffed to see the 2002 film getting some love, although Ice Age: Collision Course occupying fifth is a bit of a head-scratcher, considering it wasn’t the franchise’s finest hour.

Nate Bargatze’s The Breadwinner has settled for the sixth spot, while UNABOMBER follows in seventh.

And because one prehistoric adventure wasn’t enough, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has nabbed eighth place, giving Buck the weasel another moment in the spotlight.

Ice Age: The Meltdown and Ice Age: Continental Drift round out the remaining positions, completing a rather extraordinary showing for the franchise.
