10 most popular films on Netflix this week: November 2022

Are you slowly clearing the cobwebs from your decorations and figuring out how to turn 30 pumpkins into soup? Well, then, this week’s list may give you some heart palpitations as we look back at the most popular films of the week, and, as you might expect, they’ve all got a hefty slice of horror involved.

The Charlize Theron-led epic The School For Good and Evil has been getting a lot of buzz and has turned the hype into another 42 million hours of viewing, despite the odd critique of the film. Based on Soman Chainani’s New York Times bestselling fantasy book series, The School for Good and Evil, was a highly-anticipated live-action film that features Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington in the centre, among various other talented actors.

That piece of clever marketing landed at number two in the charts, having topped it last week. It means that we have a new leader of the pack, the Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain film about nurse Cullen, titled The Good Nurse, which has grabbed the top spot with over 68 million hours of viewing.

The drama, starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, was tipped for success at the Academy Awards. Telling the story of an infamous caregiver who is implicated in the deaths of hundreds of hospital patients, the film is helmed by the Mindhunter director Tobias Lindholm with a script by Krysty Wilson-Cairns of 1917 and Last Night in Soho fame. Based on the book by Charles Graeber, the true crime story also features the likes of Noah Emmerich, Kim Dickens, Nnamdi Asomugha and Ajay Naidu.

While new entries and spooky spectaculars make up a large part of this week’s story, it is worth pointing out the ludicrous staying power of two gleeful animations: The Boss Baby and Sing which have both occupied the charts for weeks. It’s a reminder that good family fun often outlasts the trendier subjects.

Of course, there are still spots on the list for Mila Kunis’ The luckiest Girl Alive and The Stranger, which act as soberingly potent pieces of filmmaking. Find them and more on the list below.
