10 most popular films on Netflix this week: July 2022

If you’re making your way over to Netflix right now, chances are you’re heading over to watch Stranger Things or The Umbrella Academy. However, with series now requiring binging sessions that last longer than most weekends, there is also a good reason to return to the brilliance of Netflix’s assortment of films. Below, we’ve got the ten most popular films on Netflix right now.

Netflix may well be struggling on a wide and open global stage, but it still has the ability to sit us down in our comfortable chairs and ready us to watch a classic film on new release.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, the $75 million action film The Man From Toronto, starring Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart, among others, has topped the charts once more. It has been viewed for nearly 63 million hours, confirming its spot once more as Netflix’s hottest property in film.

The movie deals with a classic case of mistaken identities and is filled with heart, humour and action. Despite its abysmal ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, and the actors having to apologise for their apparent butchering of the city’s pronunciation, the film seems to have struck a chord with Netflix viewers.

Elsewhere, Chris Hemsworth’s recent and fascinating stint as a mad scientist in Netflix’s Spiderhead has dropped down the rankings with only 9 million hours of viewing. Also starring Miles Teller, Jurnee Smollett, BeBe Bettencourt and Tess Habruich, the film sees Hemsworth in a different avatar from Thor and Extraction.

The latest in blockbuster action from Jason Statham, Homefront, has broken into the top ten, alongside the empowering Glamour Girls. Also on the list is Sing 2, a delightful animation that has accrued nearly 25 million hours of viewing and Adam Sandler’s ode to basketball, Hustle, which has been on the chart for over a month.
