February is threatening to draw to a close, and you can feel the first whispers of Spring just around the corner, and the warmer days and longer nights will arrive at last. Until then, Netflix viewers are likely to enjoy the final moments of winter wrapped up with the last hot water bottles of the year. Let’s take a look at the most popular films people have been watching this week.
Storming to the top of the list with a whopping 53 million hours viewed, enjoying its second week in the top 10, is Your Place or Mine, the romantic comedy film which sees Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher star as best friends who swap houses with one another. Evidently, love has been in the air for Netflix watchers ever since Valentine’s Day.
In second place, but way behind in terms of hours watched, is 2 Guns, with 12 million hours. The 2013 Baltasar Kormakur buddy cop action-comedy stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as the police duo and is based on Steven Grant’s 2007 comic book series of the same name. Buddy cop comedies have always been a favourite on the streaming platform, and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
Very close behind is the 2022 film The Woman King, a historical action drama starring Viola Davis as an Agojie general who trains a new generation of warriors to stand up against their enemies. The Agojie were a West African warrior unit that existed between the 17th and 19th Centuries in the kingdom of Dahomey. Fierce stuff, indeed.
Just last month, the romantic comedy You People was released on Netflix, directed by Kenya Barris and co-written with Jonah Hill (who also features in a lead role). It focuses on a White Jewish/Black Muslim interracial couple and how their cultures and families clash. The film also stars Lauren London, David Duchovny, Nia Long and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Elsewhere we see sequels of beloved franchises making appearances on the top 10 list this week, with Minions: The Rise of Gru and Mission: Impossible – Fallout both garnering their fair share of hours watched. So too, does 2015’s Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt, prop up the list in tenth place. Check out the complete list below.
