The latest batch of Netflix statistics have been released for the week, showing which movies have been watched more than any others. Netflix will be pleased, too, as, unlike other weeks, it is one of their original movies that takes the top spot this week, giving the streaming service some hope that they can get back to prosperity as they fight against the flourishing influence of Disney+, Apple TV and more.
Taking the number one spot this week is Day Shift, a fun vampire-hunting action movie, telling the story of a hard-working father who secretly hunts and kills vampires for a living. Directed by the stunt coordinator for films such as John Wick: Chapter 2, Fast & Furious 8 and Warrior, the film sees Jamie Foxx star alongside Karla Souza, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg, Meagan Good and many more.
Totting up 56.51 million hours of views, Day Shift enjoyed a healthy first week in the top ten, with the successful romance flick Purple Hearts coming in at second place with 46.37 million hours. Starring Sofia Carson, Nicholas Galitzine, John Harlan Kim and Chosen Jacobs, this second Netflix original has seen three weeks in the top ten, making it one of the streaming services most surprising hits of the summer.
Arriving on the streaming platform last week, the movie adaptation of the video game Uncharted was bound to turn heads upon its release on Netflix, particularly with beloved star Tom Holland at the helm. Clocking in 23.71 million hours of viewing time, the film may not be a Netflix original, but it is hauling in good numbers as it heads into its third week in the top ten.
Helmed by the filmmakers behind Avengers: Endgame, one of the top three highest-grossing movies of all time, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo took charge of Netflix’s The Gray Man, and have led it to considerable success. Starring Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas and Billy Bob Thornton alongside Chris Evans, Netflix’s explosive action movie totalled 21.16 million hours of viewing time this week.
Capping off the top ten is the Netflix rom-com, Wedding Season, a film following two young people who feel pressured by their parents to find spouses, going on a pretend date only to fall in love in the process. Enjoying its second week in the top ten, the film clocked in 19.01 million hours of viewing time, standing as yet another original project for the streaming service.
