Zoe Saldana, Rita Moreno lead Netflix’s 'Maya And The Three'

Since his 2014 animated musical The Book Of Life, we have been eagerly waiting for Joshua R. Gutierrez to bring us something new and refreshing. It seems like Netflix has finally answered our prayers as they dropped the teaser for the upcoming new animated miniseries called Maya And The Three

The miniseries revolves around the tale of Maya, a rebellious and free-spirited warrior princess, who is on the verge of celebrating her fifteenth birthday and coronation when all plans get disrupted due to a shocking revelation from the gods of the underworld.

Maya must pay the price for her family’s ancient secrets and give up her life. If she refuses to comply, the gods will unleash suffering on the world, her family and her peers.

Maya must, thus, embark on a daunting quest to encounter the three great warriors according to the prophecy, which might help her in the uphill task of defeating the gods to save her people.

While the narrative derives from the Princess Quest rulebook, it sees the culmination of the fascinating Aztec, Maya and Inca mythologies amidst the contemporary Caribbean culture, which adds to the unique feel of the series.

The miniseries has a star-studded ensemble cast, including the likes of Zoe Saldana as Maya. Saldana was last seen as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She will be joined by Rita Moreno as Ah Puch, Gael Garcia Bernal as the Haguar Triplets, Gabriel Iglesias as Picchu, Stephanie Beatriz as Chimi, Allen Maldonado as Rico, Diego Luna as Zatz, Cheech Marin as the Gods of Wind and Storm, Rosie Perez as the Godess of the Gators, Alfred Molina as the God of War and Queen Latifah as Gran Bruja, among others.

This nine-episode miniseries is set to premiere on Netflix this autumn.
