Zack Snyder opens up on R-rated versions of 'Rebel Moon'

The two-part science fiction epic movie Rebel Moon will be released on Netflix, with the first part arriving on December 22nd this year. Zack Snyder recently opened up on the R-rated director’s cut versions.

Both Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver will have PG-13 ratings, but longer R-rated versions will be available to stream on Netflix at a later date.

“I’m super proud of the PG-13 version, the broader audience version, because I would say it really satisfies an awesome, timeless, mythological scope,” Snyder recently told Entertainment Weekly

He added, “What we’ve done with the other version is fun and subversive because an R-rated sci-fi movie at this scale shouldn’t exist.”

The director’s cut version will be more violent than their PG-13 counterparts and will expand on the films’ universe, offering around an hour more content in the process. “It’s not just slightly different or a little bit more,” Snyder noted.

The longer versions had always been planned by Netflix, and the director admitted that it was “the first time” that he’d been able to plan for a movie production in such a way.
