‘Worst Neighbor Ever’: Where is Frances Zaayer now?
Worst Neighbor Ever, the latest true-crime Netflix documentary from the creators of Worst Roommate Ever and Worst Ex Ever, focuses on a new subject matter, shedding light on the darker aspects of community living and neighbourhood feuds.
The Netflix docu-series explores four separate cases of neighbourhood disputes gone out of control, with the first episode titled She Finally Snapped, recounting the terrifying true story of Shawna Scott and her husband David, who relocated to Kentucky to be closer to her family. Upon their arrival, Shawna also got an opportunity to reconnect with an old family friend, Frances Zaayer.
While reconnecting with childhood friends is a feeling that remains unmatched, no matter how much you grow up, Shawna’s rekindling her bond with Frances came at a high personal cost, as revealed in the true-crime documentary Worst Neighbor Ever. But what did Zaayer do, and where is she now?
Well, it all began when Frances Zaayer moved into Shawna Scott’s home while her residence was under renovation. What started as an attempt at bonding soon evolved into mounting friction and tension between the duo. As friends from their teenage years, it didn’t take long for the two to reignite the spark of their friendship that had once faded when they moved onto the same street.
But when tensions erupted, and Zaayer eventually moved out of Shawna’s house, one would assume everything would subside. However, things only went worse from there, especially when they began living across one another as “Frances decided that she was going to try to cause problems,” Shawna said in Worst Neighbor Ever.
The square-offs became an everyday matter, with law enforcement being called upon almost daily. One of the inciting incidents even included Shawna ringing the police after seeing Zaayer topless on her property. However, Frances didn’t hold back, also alleging to the cops that she was being camera-recorded whenever she stepped outside. “I was called to Washington Avenue almost daily; it was over and over all the time,” former deputy Duanna Kidd said in the documentary.
Although these confrontations were not one-off incidents, hell broke loose once and for all when, in May 2018, Zaayer walked across the neighbourhood street, open firing at Shawna and David. Shawna was immediately taken to the hospital, having been injured in the face, but David unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Zaayer was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2022 after she pleaded guilty to murder, second-degree assault, and first-degree wanton endangerment. As of now, she remains behind bars and is eligible for parole in 2038.
