Netflix has finally released the trailer for the third season of The Witcher.
In the highly anticipated third chapter of the series, inspired by the popular video game and book franchise, Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia for the last time. Liam Hemsworth will be stepping into the shoes of this iconic character from season four.
Ardent fans of Cavill as Geralt are going through a bittersweet moment. While some fans are excited about the third instalment, some are wondering if they will be able to have the same mindless fun watching the show now that they know the star of the show is bowing out.
In the trailer, Geralt is seen going to battle once again to protect Ciri. He’s heard saying “For the first time, I understand real fear.”
In the previous season’s finale, Ciri successfully rid herself of the malevolent Voleth Meir, while Yennefer made a heartbreaking decision to safeguard Ciri’s life at the cost of her own. This selfless act came after the former Princess of Cintra tragically eliminated a significant number of Geralt’s fellow Witchers, leading to a breach of trust between Yennefer and Geralt.
The official synopsis of the third season reads: “As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.
“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”
The Witcher season three will be divided into two sections, with the first instalment scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 29, 2023. The second part will subsequently be released on July 27, 2023.
