Will there be ‘The Hunting Wives’ season two?
Netflix’s small-town mysteries are the next big thing in the streaming landscape. From the Yosemite National Park to Maple Brooks in East Texas, wherever you go, the body count is on the rise. Despite coming across as a limited series, Netflix answered prayers with the renewal of Untamed. And now, we cannot help but wonder if a surprise renewal awaits The Hunting Wives, too.
This is definitely not the first time the question has stumped fans, nor is it the last. The Hunting Wives is a tale that ends up with more skeletons in the closet than it starts out with. While it answers many loose ends, it leaves that perfect tenterhook to spark the conversations about a follow-up season. It’s important to note that Netflix hasn’t yet renewed the show for a second season.
But if you believe in streaming forecasts, it’s easy to read between the lines. Netflix roped in The Hunting Wives from Starz as part of their one-year deal earlier this summer. The streaming giant has yet to comment on the future of the series. However, in a pre-release interview with Decider, Malin Akerman revealed her anxiety about the show’s release, mostly since she wants it to go on longer.
“I think the nerves come from, for me, really wanting this to go for a second season, because I love everybody that I got to work with, and it would be a dream come true to go again,” she explained. What she wants is for the audience to feel the same kind of excitement and love for the show that guarantees the inevitability of The Hunting Wives season two.
In yet another interview with Collider, series star Brittany Snow expressed similar sentiments. Speaking of where The Hunting Wives left its debut season, she said, “I think the end is really interesting, and I know that we would deal with it in season two.” She was well aware of the questions that were bound to arise with the first instalment.
According to Snow, the cliffhangers were essential because “Rebecca wants to answer them in the next season if we get one.” A round-table conference may be weighing in on this exact topic as we speak. However, if Netflix does give the green light, Rebecca Cutter knows exactly where to take the show.
In a conversation with Variety, Cutter expressed a desire to inculcate a “time jump” between the instalments. But it’s not a year, “a time.” As per Cutter, two highlights could serve as the crux of this potential second season: an inevitable whodunnit and the “Margo/Sophie relationship.” She aims to address their whereabouts from start to end, alongside the ups and downs of their relationship.
“So it’s a tracking course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is,” she continued. But if you think she knows what the murder mystery is, you’re mistaken. She’s as much in the fog as the viewers searching “what to expect from The Hunting Wives season two.” And it might take a Netflix green light to dig deeper.
