Will there be a ‘The Last House’ sequel?

The Last House on Netflix has sparked a wave of renewed sci-fi intrigue with its gripping premise that feeds on the threat of the unknown.

The psychological thriller follows an ordinary family of four who find themselves trapped inside the four walls of their home with no way out. With a thunderous rainstorm pouring outside, they can neither leave the house nor open the windows or doors, as they seem locked down by an invisible force.

As they navigate survival through days that turn into weeks and then years, they slowly run out of basic supplies while being stripped of their original social reality. While the family initially tries to survive and break free of the shackles, by the end of The Last House, they’re left with no option but to tackle the threat head-on.

Although the lengthy fight between the family patriarch, Jason, and the mysterious creature culminates in a reflection and reckoning with mercy and empathy, the audience is already curious whether the movie will return for a sequel.

While Netflix has yet to address any such development about a possible sequel, Wagner Moura, who portrays Jason Delgado in the movie, touched on it.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Moura opened up about Jason’s decision to show mercy to the mysterious creature and whether that ending sets up the road for another instalment. The actor explained why he believed his character made the correct choice, citing that his decision was influenced by the father-daughter relationship in The Last House.

If not for his decision, it’s unlikely the mysterious creature would have let them leave. However, what makes viewers curious about a sequel is the final bit where the family is seen leaving by a boat and sending a distress call over the radio to find out if there are more survivors.

On the other end, we hear an unidentified voice saying “Hello,” confirming they were not the last ones alive. As a result, the final twist has everyone scratching their heads over whether a continuation is in the cards.

Moura clarified that he’s unsure about a sequel. However, if the opportunity does arise, he’s definitely ready to return as Jason Delgado for a sci-fi follow-up.
