Will there be a second season of ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’?
Netflix has left netizens shaken with its latest horror-mystery thriller, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, from creator Haley Z Boston, sparking fears about commitment and marriages they didn’t know existed in the first place.
The Netflix series, executive-produced by the Duffer Brothers, follows Rachel’s growing dread about commitment and the idea of a soulmate in the lead-up to her wedding with Nicky, featuring a harrowing plot twist and culminating in a bloody finale. While we know how the series unfolds, what’s next for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen? Is the show one and done?
In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Boston addressed the possibility of a second season of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, reasoning that since it was birthed as a limited series, “it is kind of a full story.” “But I think there’s a world where it’s a totally different, very bad thing. I’d have to find another existential fear to explore,” she continued.
In essence, even though Rachel and Nicky’s story may be complete, Boston wouldn’t mind a new storyline, which “has got to be worse” for the characters since “you got to elevate it every time.”
Boston also spoke to Deadline separately about whether she plans to make it an “ongoing series,” saying, “I mean, it could be. At one point, I thought, what if it’s Jude’s wedding in however many years, and Rachel’s still Rachel because she’s immortal? Or Nicky’s next wedding, which she has to come with witness.”
Although that could make many hopeful, Boston ensured to clarify that she does believe it is a “complete story in and of itself, as well.” “So, it could go on, and it just be what it is,” she added.
As of now, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen for a second season, nor has it cancelled the show after the first.
The “limited series” tag might worry fans, and we understand why. However, quite a few shows on Netflix conceived as miniseries have evolved into multiple seasons, such as the Emmy-winning anthology series, BEEF, whose second instalment is due this April.
Having said that, with Boston giving out mixed signals about the possibility, it still feels too early to say what the future could look like for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. So, until Netflix gives the green signal, we might have to wait a bit longer.
