Netflix is once again in the showbiz headlines, thanks to a gripping new comedy thriller, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, coming from the Derry Girls creator, Lisa McGee.
The thriller series follows a tight-knit group of three childhood best friends – Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara – now in their 30s, who embark on an adventurous journey through Ireland and beyond to investigate the mysterious death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang, Greta.
The mystery heightens when the trio arrive at her wake, only to realise that there’s more to her alleged demise as they witness a series of creepy events, convincing them all the more to launch their own investigation despite the widespread claims. The deeper they dig, the more likely they are to confront the skeletons in their closets, but if not for that, they are more likely to end up ghosted.
Speaking of How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, McGee told Tudum, “This is the show I’ve always wanted to make; a mashup of my two favourite genres, mystery and comedy. We want to keep you guessing and keep you laughing.”
While McGee certainly stood true to her claims with How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, coming to the question of whether there’s a potential second season in store, Netflix has yet to address the questions surrounding the possibility.
That said, although Netflix has not announced a second season of How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, in a recent conversation with Deadline, the creator shared that she has already started thinking about a follow-up instalment.
“I’ve left it open for a second series, but it’s all completely down to how many people watch,” McGee said. “I’d love to do one,” she added.
Although it’s still too early to predict or confirm a second season, considering that the creator is more than ready, everything depends on the show’s reception in the weeks to come. As a result, there are no details available surrounding the cast either.
