Will there be a season 2 for Netflix’s ‘The Queen’s Gambit’?

Netflix’s 2020 limited series The Queen’s Gambit had amassed a massive amount of fan following when it was released. It captured audiences with its intriguing premise about an orphaned female chess prodigy defying all odds and smashing the patriarchy to reach the zenith of success.

However, fans will be heartbroken to hear that the show’s creators have dismissed rumours about collaborating together for a second season. It looks as if all dreams of a season two have been firmly squashed.

Created by Frank Allan and Scott Frank, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, The Queen’s Gambit won 11 Emmys at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards and tied with The Crown to have won the most number of awards at the Emmys, making Netflix revel in the sweet taste of victory.

Their awards included Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Directing for Limited or Anthology Series, Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special and more.

After the ceremony, Frank spoke to Deadline and quashed the rumours about plans for spin-offs or a second season. He stated, “I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry — let me put it differently — I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told”.

However, the team will most likely have future projects for us to look forward to, as confirmed by co-executive producer William Horberg who said that they would “certainly going to keep working together”.

Taylor-Joy agreed with Horberg and even added that they would “try to find another story to tell with the same passion and team of amazing artists.”

The producers are also eager to bring together co-stars Marielle heller and Moses Ingram for their “next ride” along with Taylor-Joy. as die-hard fans, we, too, are excited about the next lap!
