Netflix had a handful of high-profile releases in its weekly lineup. However, the Dutch adaptation of Saskia Noort’s bestselling novel The Dinner Club, AKA De Eetclub, The Perfect Lie, hits different.

Already crowned one of the best non-English-language Netflix Original shows of the year, the psychological thriller wasted no time in grabbing rave reviews.

The Perfect Lie follows Karen, who relocates to the affluent town of Bergen with her family, seeking a fresh start, and soon after, warms up to the Dinner Club, an exclusive circle of elite couples who seem to have it all. While the group seems extremely close-knit, cracks begin to show after a group member dies when one of the villas goes up in flames.  

As Karen starts asking questions, she discovers that these friendships actually walk on thin ice, and what appears to be a tragic accident might just be a murder case. While The Perfect Lie brings page-turning suspense to the forefront, as usual, it has already got fans wondering whether the show will return for more.

Well, Netflix has yet to renew the Dutch drama for a second season, but that’s probably because it just hit the streaming shelves. Since the streaming giant typically weighs several crucial metrics, including completion rates and viewership numbers, an official renewal can take a while.

For those wondering, renewals or cancellations usually take weeks, if not months. Then again, exceptions exist too.

Thankfully, The Perfect Lie was not conceived as a limited series, and the official page labels it as season one, which means the show may not be a one-and-done. Although the source material makes the situation a little dicey, with several tabloids pointing out that it is only a seven-part adaptation, the conclusion suggests otherwise.

While the Netflix version unmasks Evert’s killer, it leaves viewers guessing about Hanneke’s fate until the end. In fact, the show blows into the credits so quickly that the audience cannot help but wonder whether there’s a post-credits reveal in the wings. However, clearly, there isn’t, which makes the wait all the more interesting.

That said, it’s best not to get ahead of ourselves and heighten our expectations without a valid reason. Instead, just keep your eyes open for future updates and re-watch The Perfect Lie to see what you may have missed the first time around.
