Will ‘Outer Banks’ return for a sixth season?
Brace yourself because this is going to sting. Outer Banks season five is finally at your doorstep. It’ll release on Netflix on August 20th, and while that means the Pogues are finally back, it also means we are getting closer to their last ever chapter. Brilliant news and dreadful news, all in one go. So typical of Netflix!
The new season picks up after the events in Morocco, with John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo still trying to process JJ’s death. Chandler Groff, meanwhile, is still out there with the Blue Crown.
Things soon go from bad to worse. The Pogues want justice, and Groff remains a threat. What’s surprising is somehow Rafe ends up becoming part of the equation. Rafe. Of all people.
But coming on to the part that has had fans gutted: there will be no Outer Banks season six. Netflix confirmed in November 2024 that season five would be the final instalment. No beating about the bush there. This is the end of the road.
The good news, well, as good as it gets, is that the series was not abruptly binned. Creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke have said they always imagined the main story running for roughly four or five seasons. So this is planned. Thought through.
Five seasons became the natural finishing point. Plenty of shows carry on until nobody remembers why they liked them in the first place. Outer Banks is choosing to leave while people still care.
Most of the central cast is returning, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey and Jonathan Daviss. Carlacia Grant is back too, while Drew Starkey returns as Rafe. That alone should keep everyone on edge.
Could the franchise live on through a spin-off? Possibly. There has been talk of expanding the Outer Banks world, but Netflix has not officially announced anything yet. So, for now, enjoy the last ride. Season six, though? Not happening.
