Will ‘Dang!’ return for a second season on Netflix?
As soon as an original title drops on Netflix, subscribers tend to go all out with their curiosity about whether it’s returning for more. Needless to say, when Dang! premiered on September 8th, the most-asked question followed suit.
Created by Andrew Law, the adult-animated comedy follows the Dang sibling duo, Eunice and Andrew, living in New York City, who have always been the underachievers compared to their overachieving eldest sister, Ruthie. While the New Yorkers are down on their luck in terms of successful careers, they have still found a sense of normalcy living away from the family drama in Boston.
But their peace inadvertently takes a backseat when Ruthie shows up at their door in Dang!, when the eldest sister reveals the unthinkable. It turns out that Ruthie has separated from her husband, Warren, after an affair with Peter, and she’s currently pregnant with the latter’s child.
While that’s quite a bomb for an overachiever, Eunice and Andrew step up to help their sister embrace the imperfections before making their way to Boston to tell their parents, where drama and chaos dial up in more ways than one.
Although Dang! brings a satisfying conclusion to the dysfunctional sibling drama, fans cannot stop asking whether Eunice, Andrew, and Ruthie plan to stir more mess in the future. Well, at the time of writing, Netflix has not officially announced a follow-up instalment. But that isn’t much of a surprise, considering the show just hit Netflix shelves.
Netflix typically weighs in a few crucial metrics, including viewership numbers and completion rates, before announcing renewals. As a result, an official renewal or cancellation announcement can take up to months. Of course, exceptions happen when the streaming giant opts for rapid renewals or cancellations. However, that’s not always the case.
That said, since Netflix didn’t frame Dang! as a limited series, it’s not unlikely for it to continue the story with a second chapter. Plus, even though the season culminates with a proper conclusion, it leaves room to explore future storylines on Ruthie’s pregnancy journey and single motherhood.
However, it’s too early to say for sure whether the show has a future on Netflix, considering the mixed reviews that have flooded the internet so far. Keeping those predictions aside, it’s best to hold our horses for an official announcement, since there’s no build-up expectation or disappointment to begin with.
