Why you should keep an eye out for ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’
Netflix never really fails to catch us off guard with its genre-focused content, and it is about to do it again with a twisted new horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
Haley Z Boston serves as the creator and showrunner for this forthcoming horror series executive-produced by the Duffer Brothers, which promises to send viewers to the edge of their seats with its character-driven storytelling.
“I love to explore characters. I think sometimes that’s lacking in the horror genre,” Boston says, speaking of her upcoming venture to Tudum. “My natural approach is from a place of character and dialogue and humour and then infusing that with unsettling horror… I’m like, ‘I want to be unsettled. I want to be freaked out.’”

What is the plot?
The eight-episode horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, unfolds over a span of a week as Rachel and Nicky lead up to their wedding. But just as they prepare to say their vows, they are confronted with questions about commitment and a horror twist you wouldn’t expect.
Although Netflix chose to reveal no more, according to Boston, the tone of the show is set somewhere between Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, infused with just the right portion of biting humour, tension, paranoia, and absurdity. The creator also revealed that the inspiration behind the series is her own parents’ decades-long marriage.
“When I was a kid, my mom said to me, ‘You just need to make sure you don’t marry the wrong person. The show is about the fear of marrying the wrong person,” Boston explains. In essence, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen engages with the idea of soulmates alongside Boston’s own perplexity around finding the right person.
Who’s in the cast and crew?
Camila Morrone portrays Rachel in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and Adam DiMarco plays Nicky. Jennifer Jason Leigh as Victoria, Ted Levine as Boris, Gus Birney as Portia, Jeff Wilbusch as Jules, Karla Crome as Nell, and Zlatko Buric round out the cast.
In addition to serving as the creator and showrunner of the series, Boston is also an executive producer, alongside the Duffer Brothers, Hilary Leavitt, and Andrea Sperling.
