Why you should be excited for ‘BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai’
The anime slate of Netflix productions is revving its engines for a highly anticipated manga adaptation, BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai. But if you were out of the loop all this time, there are plenty of reasons why you should keep an eye out for this upcoming series.
BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai sees the return of Baki Hanma, the strongest underground fighter, who is all set for a high-stakes showdown against Japan’s mightiest swordsman.
Based on Keisuke Itagaki’s popular manga franchise, BAKI, Netflix also recently released a trailer of BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai to give viewers a preview of what’s to come.
But before you check out the trailer, here’s a rundown of everything you should know about the anime series.
What is the plot?
After his battle against his father, Yurjiro Hanma, Baki and his fellow fighters are left fidgety. But that’s only until a clandestine scheme begins to take shape 364 meters below Tokyo Skytree: the revival of the greatest swordsman Japan has seen, Musashi Miyamoto. Subsequently, as warriors such as Doppo Orochi, Jack Hanma, and Kaoru Hanayama warm up to return to fight, Baki prepares himself.
So, expect an unprecedented showdown between Baki, the strongest underground fighter, and Musashi Miyamoto, the master samurai. However, only time will reveal the final outcome of this mixed martial arts fight across time and space.
Who is in the dub cast?
Troy Baker is the English-dubbed voice behind Baki, while SungWon Cho voices Musashi Miyamoto. The upcoming series features several cameos, including The Miz, Nolan Hansen, Matt Mercer, Charles White Jr, AKA Cr1tikal, and Lena Lemon.
All about the opening and ending theme
According to Tudum, WANIMA has been roped in to perform the show’s opening theme, ‘FURUBOKO,’ while Novel Core is set to perform the ending theme, ‘Mountain Top.’ Their tracks reflect the high-octane fights between Baki Hanma, Musashi Miyamoto, and the fighters of the underground arena.
“I grew up reading and watching BAKI from a young age, captivated by its world beyond common sense and its many iconic scenes, often reenacting them with my friends. For the Musashi Miyamoto arc, I wrote this song by overlapping the idea that ‘one’s way of life itself is a battle’ with the feeling of continuing to stand up, even after being completely beaten down. I’m truly happy and grateful to be involved in this work,” WANIMA told Netflix.
“Yujiro is the strongest – and therefore, the loneliest. Writing from Baki’s perspective as he seeks the source of that strength, I titled the song ‘Mountain Top’ to reflect the cost of strength, like how the air grows thinner the closer you get to the summit,” Novel Core added.
