Why you should be excited about the Rami Malek series coming to Netflix: ‘Mr Robot’
Whenever a TUDUM update twinkles on top of the notification bar, hearts start rushing about what’s next on Netflix. While any Netflix original gets viewers on their toes, this time, they must brace themselves for a blast from the past with Mr Robot, starring Rami Malek, coming to Netflix US. Originally released for USA Network, the show ran for four years from 2015 to 2019. But despite Mr Robot’s conclusion, it has stood the test of time.
The critically acclaimed Mr Robot series is slated to land in Netflix US’s library on July 3rd. And this forthcoming arrival is break-free. All four seasons will be available for streaming on Netflix US. The show already has a cult following, which means its arrival is a sign of relief for its fandom worldwide. So, for anyone who had to resort to streamer hopping all these years, Netflix is officially your one-stop solution for every instalment of Mr Robot.
Mr Robot is a psychological thriller starring Malek as Elliot Alderson, a brilliant yet troubled cybersecurity engineer and hacker. He suffers from severe social anxiety, clinical depression, and dissociative identity disorder. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when “Mr Robot,” an insurrectionary anarchist, recruits him. Christian Slater portrays Mr Robot in the series. While Mr Robot is enigmatic, the purpose of this recruitment is rather simple.
He leads a group of hacktivists known as “fsociety.” Together, they embark on a daring mission to disrupt the financial stronghold of E Corp, the behemoth conglomerate that dominates the global economy. Fsociety has one mission: to encrypt E Corp’s debt record and unleash a digital revolution the world has yet to see. But Mr Robot’s impact is multi-layered.
Mr Robot explores thought-provoking themes and tropes, including corporate greed, anarchy, mental health, identity crisis, and morality. But with its complex protagonist and the rich backdrop of corporate overhaul, Sam Esmail crafted a story that was way ahead of its time. Moreover, the series offers a scathing social commentary on surveillance and control. It simultaneously dismantles the illusion of freedom in the corporate world, where technology is a key player.
Mr Robot maintains the tone of intensity throughout its four-season run. It has been awarded two Golden Globes, three Primetime Emmys, and a Peabody Award. But that’s not all. The show’s cinematography is one of a kind. Mr Robot takes a cinematic leap with its immersive viewing by utilising unconventional colour and background music. Although it’s non-traditional, the change is elemental.
Esmail also incorporated unconventional framing in Mr Robot for a unique viewing experience. Of course, the cast was exceptional. And the tense chemistry between Malek and Slater was foundational in Mr Robot’s success. Although the digital age has already made streaming too easy, with Mr Robot’s impending arrival on Netflix, fans have the ultimate opportunity to make the most of the good old series.
