Why you should be excited about the new crime thriller, ‘Nemesis’

Few things rival the sheer adrenaline of a high-stakes heist, where the pulse-pounding suspense is matched only by the intensity of the ensuing chaos. While it has been some time since Netflix viewers were treated to a nerve-wracking package of the two, it’s about time they get ready for a new crime thriller, Nemesis, coming this May.

Courtney A Kemp, creator of the Power Universe, is bringing the crime drama with co-creator Tani Marole, marking the first series in a new creative partnership between Kemp and Netflix.

“Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs self-preservation,” Kemp said to Tudum.

Netflix also released a series of first-look photos teasing what’s to come. So, in case that makes you curious, here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about Nemesis.

What is the plot?

Nemesis is an upcoming Netflix series about two men operating on opposite sides of the law: a highly skilled criminal and a brilliant police detective. Although it starts initially as a subversion of the heist genre, marked by thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics, and punch-fest action, it evolves into an exploration of “what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.”

Who is in the cast and crew?

Nemesis on Netflix features a star-studded cast, including Matthew Law as Isaiah Stiles, Y’Ian Noel as Coltrane Wilder, Cleopatra Coleman as Ebony Wilder, Tre Hale as Darren “Stro” Stroman, Domenick Lombardozzi as Dave Cerullo, Jonnie “Dumbfounded” Park as Chris Choi, Ariana Guerra as Yvette Cruz, and Gabrielle Dennis as Candace Stiles.

Michael Potts as James Sealy, Sophina Brown as Charlie, Cedric Joe as Noah Stiles, Jeff Pierre as Malik Jacobs, Moe Irvin as Amos “Nightmare” Stiles, Quincy Isaiah as Gideon “Deon” Davis, Jay Reeves as James Brinkley, Mike O’Malley as Detective Rick Viggiano, Stephanie Sigman as Detective Nicolette Harper, Khalilah Joi as Ella Wilder, Shane Johnson as Harvey, and Siua Ikale’o as Ika Manakani round out the cast.

Mario Van Peebles executive-produces the series alongside Phillip Barnett and Chris Salek, and also directs the first two episodes.

Is there a trailer?
